I would ask this question over in the lens area, but think you guys will be able to give me more accurate feedback since I post most of my photos here. I would like to upgrade to a 70-200L, but not sure what one. I want sharper images and can't do the 2.8IS right now so based off of the pics you see from me should I look at a 2.8 non IS or a F4 with IS?

Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 OS .... supposedly the only thing sharper is the 70-200 is mk 2. its definately sharper than my IS mark 1. I tried it out recently at a flickr meet.

^Wow, that lens looks great. For only $1,399 you get f/2.8, OS, and HSM. Compared to Canon's 70-200L Mk2 at $2,449...that's pretty incredible. I think I'm going to put that on my wishlist now..

I should note that those prices are off of Amazon, today (6/6).

This makes me wish there was a local shop that carried Sigma, just so I could try out some of their glass.

By the way, I finally got my home studio setup and took a few test shots, I'll post up later tonight. :)

I have been watching these guys work for the last couple weeks from my office. I drove up there at lunch to check them out one day. They sure hook those pipes up fast.

Comes down to if you want to play games or not, or do like I did and buy the 2.8 IS II and get it over with.

Any 60d users have any tips for Filming video, specifically wideshots of landscapes etc?

I only have the stock lens right now and I do alot of VFX and Matte Paintings and really would like to film some wideshots but everything always tends to look soft or slightly out of focus.

Any suggestions on what settings to use when filming on a sunny day?

Thanks

Rob

I do a lot of filming on my 60D. As it was mentioned, you do need to use at f/11+ when outside if you want to keep the shutter speed at twice the frame rate (24p = shutter speed of 50, 60p = shutter speed 125, etc.). If you need a shallow DOP, you'll either need to increase the shutter speed which changes the look of the video, or buy some lens filters to allow you stop down to keep shutter speed at 50. Keeping shallow DOP on these is VERY difficult due to the manual focus, however, it is imperative that you zoom in 10x to establish focus on your subject prior to recording so you know you have pinpoint focus.

Every time I talk myself out of this lens...this crap happens! :)

Wife and are are going (back) to HI in Jan and I thought this would be a good lens, and I could throw on a 2X for the whale watching tours.

Other uses of course, but this is what will get the missus' buy-in! Haha!!

Some pictures of my BIL and his lovely bride in their wedding reception. It was a very dark dance floor and the camera had a hard time focusing. I'm suprised I got off a few shots considering the really low light. Excellent camera.

Yea it honestly shocked me. Im probably gonna be purchasing one for a few reasons:

1. New with 5 year warranty
2. Stands out alot less in public
3. Sharper and better IS(4 stops vs mine with 3 stops)
