This makes me wish there was a local shop that carried Sigma, just so I could try out some of their glass.

By the way, I finally got my home studio setup and took a few test shots, I'll post up later tonight. :)

Yea it helps out alot. Plus we have a few flickr meets here that occur mnthly so I get to chit chat and expand my lens nrtwork out...LOL

Ok Johan, explain that first shot to me.

The light in the background looks like it might be a city, but you also have a strong light camera right that is lighting up the rocks. Yet at the same time you also have enough light from camera left to give the rocks some light and even cast a shadow onto the larger rock.

On top of all this you still have a deep dark sky with stars.

Give it up, how did you get this capture?

Yea it honestly shocked me. Im probably gonna be purchasing one for a few reasons:

1. New with 5 year warranty
2. Stands out alot less in public
3. Sharper and better IS(4 stops vs mine with 3 stops)

Yes this lens do look better in Black. I can get this lens for $934.41 in HK thats a Wow in price;)

Thanks man. I think landscapes are becoming my "thing" these days.
I'm really thinking I need a nice printer instead of any new lenses or other gear for the time being. Definitely want to get something that can print 44+ inches wide and longer. $5,000 = ouch!

Actually the light in the BG is a lighthouse. Thus why it is blueish and not orange. The light to the right of me is from the hotel I was staying in and other lights from buildings. There was one condo with a light on behind/left of me to fill in some shadows of the taller rocks. This shot would have been impossible to light myself, as it required a lot of continuous lighting.

I also just got lucky and had clear skies for a couple hours around midnight.

I did a couple more long exposures in this spot that turned out really well.

Thanks for the explanation.
You must have the favor of the photo Gods, If I had been there it would have been cloudy, the lighthouse would have had a burned out bulb, the hotel would have been 2 miles away and there would be 5 drunk bikers passed out on the beach with a rabid rottweiler trying to hump my leg.

Great shots Johan, landscapes are definitely your thing.

Glad you guys enjoy these shots.

I got more keepers in the one week in Oregon than I did for 3 months before that trip.

I still have another 60-70% of my keeper shots to upload this week.

Also got some killer shots out in the Redwood forests.

It's apparent that good photos are only possible with good subjects. Start with a beautiful location and the rest is easy...
