Like this the best...

quite curious of your impressions of the Sigma... and have you found shots to be sharpest at f/6.3?

There are three of us going. We were all Peace Corps Volunteers back in the mid-1960s stationed in Punjab.
Of course we plan a nostalgic journey to the places where we worked and lived, but also some tourist spots. Two of us have only seen the Taj from a train window, so that's one place. I wanted to visit Bodh Gaya and Varanasi and they wanted to see Khujaraho, so we will probably get that far east.

I plan to be back to Delhi by 26 Jan for the Republic Day parade and we were going to go to one of the national parks to close out the trip, either Jim Corbett or Rathambhore. Our return is slated for 8 Feb.

I have a feeling this will not be my last trip, however. I'll send you a email through the forum and you can do the same for me.

Thanks.

I have replied to your PM.

Ah well, some other time then. Here is a picture from our local temple.

Its better at 6.3 than 5.6. I am over all very happy with it. It focuses accurately and consistently for me. however, If you have to crop a lot, you loose detail. It is not as croppable as my 70-200 2.8 IS II, but that should come at no surprize. If I were a birder, I would probably put the money down for a 100-400L. the thing is that lens is so badly due for an update (4 stop IS, get rid of the push pull zoom) that I am reluctant buying it. I am surprised that canon updated its excellent superzoom primes before this very popular and versatile lens.

Yeah - I love my 70-300mm focal range and am looking at its new 'L' version which appears to be quite sharp at f/5.6 - and sure better be for the price!

anyways - back to the 60D and a few recent seasonal shots with the 50mm 1.8

In Hong Kong the 60D comes with this government warning (lower left):

(Nothing against the 60D, I just thought this was funny... taken with a D3s ;) ).

Timeflight, its a shame about the lack of tripod, but the music matched the footage really well. Excellent for a first test with the camera.

On a different note, ill be sure to post in this thread a bunch more around christmas time, i ordered a 60D as an upgrade to my XS and i'm most likely going to go overboard with the video

Hi Immaculens.

Thanks so much for the detailed answer. Don't think I've ever had that much info to any reponse here.

You've actually helped me quite a bit as I was also interested in 50D - but it sounds like other than a few features, the 60D would be the wiser choice. The 7D would be my ideal choice but can't have everything...especially since this is a hobby for me and not a profession.

If I can shoot anything like Kevinder's hummingbirds with the 60D, I'll happier than a pig in ....

If I land up buying the 60D, I'll be a regular in this thread.

Cheers.

If the 60D is your first DSLR with video, you are starting with one of the easiest versions. I have a 5D2 and a 7D. I first got a T2i, thinking it would be an ideal camera to take on a trip to India this Jan. But the 60D looked as it would fit the bill better, ............

You can shoot a still in video mode but it sure seems to take a while.

Yup, first DSLR although I did have a T2i and a G12 for a week before deciding on the 60D. I'd still like a G12 for those times when I want something a little smaller in size.

Yeah I tried taking a still shot while in video mode but did not like the way that works so I doubt I'll do that. Becides, it's not that hard to grab a still shot from video in post if I need it.

So far the only major annoyance I have is why is the movie mode setting all the way on the opposite side of the wheel from Manual??  Not easy to flip back and forth between video and stills.

This has been bothering me, too; presently I find that I have to *really* want to use video in order to reorient the camera in my hands so I can manipulate that knob all the way over to video.

In other news, I've really been enjoying the 70-200 2.8 IS II on my gripped 60D. Primarily I've been messing around with it indoors since it's so cold and windy outside.

This was my first true love, a Gibson SG I got back in high school.

Well I suppose I should post at least one photo.

This is one of the last photos I took of our dog Mindy.

Greets Newby2Cam,
Do I wish there was exposure compensation in Manual Mode? yes.

I dunno if I'm missing something here, but exp. comp. in Manual? Isn't that achieved by playing with the shutter/aperture/ISO until the pointer on the meter tells you your exposure is over/under?
