Very creative images. Great stuff. That pigeon shot took some timing - please tell me it took you a dozen attempts to get it?;)

Man, my popup flash stopped working so I suspected it was a problem with the pin.. sure enough the hotshoe pin was depressed on the left side so I started fiddling with it.. nothing.. so I took the hotshoe plate thing off and when I took a closer look... the pin was missing O_o I think I may have dropped it... but whatever my pop up is working again. still have one pin left.. hope it doesn't crap out on me lol otherwise I'll just have to make a DIY pin. no biggie I suppose.

I have the trial of Lightroom 3 installed and it reads it fine... I usually convert to DNG as I import to LR, but it will read the .CR2 files also. Any benefit to leaving the files .CR2 over .DNG?

I'm new to Lightroom, but I love it so far and I've been a Photoshop user since version 3 back in the early '90s. It's nice to be able to do most of what I want without having to go into Photoshop at all. :)

As far as I can tell there is only one microswitch. Looking from the back of the camera it's under the tab on the right side.

No problem.....I had the same question and had to use a magnifying glass and flashlight to see it. Looked at both sides.

Then I took a small wedge and slipped it into the right and left sides of the hot shoe to test it. What I found was when slipped into the left side (looking from back of camera) it did not stop the pop-up from, well, popping up.

Doing the same thing on the right side did stop it from popping up.

Oh, appears to be some type of hole on the left side but without taking the hot shoe off I have no idea what it's for. My guess is that the hot shoe is used on more than one camera model and it is there for a microswitch on another camera.

Macroshooter,

FYI - Here is the thread that got me looking into it in the first place.

It appears over time the spring tab can deform a little and cause the switch to not release all the way.

I just got my 60D (from Dubai) for $920. Coming from EOS 450D, to me it's a big leap and I'm really so happy with my decision. Here's my first pic @ISO100 (I did try ISO3200 and I was very pleased as well).

For the first picture:
Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE
Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/60
Av( Aperture Value ) 4.5
Exposure Compensation +2/3
ISO Speed 100
Lens EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Focal Length 31.0mm
White Balance Mode Auto
AF Mode One-Shot AF
AF area select mode Automatic selection

I suppose shutter speed was kind of slow?

For the second picture:
Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE
Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/320
Av( Aperture Value ) 4.5
Exposure Compensation +2/3
ISO Speed 100
Lens EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Focal Length 38.0mm
White Balance Mode Auto
AF Mode One-Shot AF
AF area select mode Automatic selection

Maybe my weak puny arms had trouble holding the camera pointing upwards on the second one?

Here are some more I took that day:

LoL. It just takes practice. I tend to tuck both my arms close to my chest and hold my breath ala sniper before I press the shutter button. The picture above, is that bubble gum alley in SLO?

My contribution for today. Warm & Cool:

Congrats, nice shot and cup. Where do they sell those?

It's my coffee mug in office, got in our local grocery store here. In my excitement, I forgot to check if there were any coffee smudges as I just finished having my morning cup :-)

Indeed, it is. I'm surprised you've heard of it.

I usually push my left elbow into my abdomen, right arm tucked to the side, and hold in a breath. Is it better to keep my left arm tucked to the side as well? A lot of times I forget and just hold the camera up with no technique to take a quick pic. I guess I need to go take more pictures until it happens naturally.
