Burning a lightbulb

I played around with this a few months ago. This was fun. Cropping and some post processing.

I used a tripod and remote shutter release. Pre-focused on the glass stem which accounts for the soft focus on the smoke. I energized the light bulb with a remote switch and had the camera set up to shoot on high speed burst.

Cool! Nice mushroom cloud in 2.

One thought to consider: instead of using f/4, try using ~f/9 and cranking up the ISO to get it all in focus. You could also take down the focal length to increase the DOF a bit.

Really not as much smoke as you might think. The Avitar is a picture of the 6" guns on the
USS Oklahoma City CLG-5 firing on a gun support mission of the coast of Viet Nam. I was stationed on her from December 1970 through July 1972.

I recognized the gunfire, but not the mounts. I was a Marine on the USS Chicago in 64-66 and we manned an open mount 5" - 38. Probably why I can't hear well today. Small world heh, and I live in La Crosse, just South of you.

They said the River will hit flood stage tonight. Myrick Park, our in town wetlands park, is right up to the path through it. No actual flooding here in town, but it's getting cloudy again after an hour of sunlight this morning. I've had enough of it myself.
