I'd recomment taking the batteries out of them after each session though. It's easy to forget to turn them off, or to accidentally press the button and they'll be dead when you go to use them. AAA batteries are everywhere though, and not terribly pricey. Just hope you're not a mile into a remote location when you discover the dead batteries though

I always try to impress upon everyone the importance of carrying multiple sets of spare batteries at all times. I think that most people won't remember or want to be bothered with removing the batteries and that makes an ever stronger case for having spare's.

How do you guys gel your strobes while using an octa, for example? I read a thread here previously about this but I can't seem to find it. I think it's buried under useless threads. :/

I just wanted to hear from you guys directly. In the meantime I'll keep searching.

EDIT: Found the thread but no clear answers. :( How do you guys use gels in a softbox?

I use these cheap BARN DOOR & Honeycomb Grid & Gel Set ($15-$30)with a small bungee cord. I use them on the Quadra w/Reflector or attach the gel to the speed ring inside the modifier.

But what about inside octas or any softbox?

EDIT: I think I just remembered something. Someone here on POTN said they used those tiny clips from B&H and just cut a big sheet of gel. Now, I'm wondering where I can get sheets of gel that aren't ginormous or doesn't require lots of cutting up.

EDIT (part II): Neve rmind! Found it. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …295+4291255266+4293918168 (external link)

Hi Stu,

The Tronix Explorer can surely be used as dead weight for a light stand. I wouldn't hang or suspend the battery by it's carry handle but if it's in the bag (or any bag with a strap or handle) then it's just fine. The Explorer weighs in at ~20 pounds when in the bag.

That's good news!

Nice shot! And good even spread with just the 39" DO. I wish I took the same route you're taking (RX instead of BXRi). I'm having this dilemma of what portable power supply to use right now. Lol.

Thanks, Sean! I just convinced a friend to go with the RX instead of the BXRi for the same reason.
