The skyport has made me lazy, but if I had a remote boom I could be lazier.

i have both and i'm lazy, i put the boom handles beside my tripod so i don't even have to move to adjust the dish

They failed me so many times it wasn't funny, even more so when I got home to my PC and noticed so many dull images. Fortunately I can recover a few and took enough to cover me. I'm going to get some Atlas Triggers, as when I shot with Ed on the weekend he found the same problems with the skyports on the Quadra. Also going to buy a Hoodman as a few of my shots were underexposed due to the LCD on the 1ds. Other than that, I loved the resolution of the 1ds and can't wait to do some more shoots, it was a great experience. how do you figure the LCD caused the underexposure? Not that I rely on the histogram, but that's 1 tool available in bright sun. Also, I'd rather have them underexposed than over HAWK Photography Gallery

The 7" version (first brought to the forum's attention by PacAce) is a MUCH better unit in every way. It's part number RB4001. I own both and much prefer the RB4001. The RB4001 also is excellent for mounting 7" grids.

Depends - are they 'actual' inches or 'effective' inches? cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

Ah, OK. I thought they might be 7" (effective), 3" (actual) to conform to AlienBee marketing/labelling standards. cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

You're starting to sound alot like me, Mic. Hmmm. Anyway, there's a good point lurking in the sarcasm. One should always take a terrestrial ruler to anything and everything from AB. As I've discoverd the hard way, Buff inches do not always equal terrestrial inches. A PCB 7" grid may or may not be 7". I don't own one so I can't say. I do know my 7" Speedotron grids which fit in my Elinchrom 7" reflector and the Interfit RB4001 will not fit in the AB 7" reflector.

I would say it was the worst-packed parcel I have ever seen, except that would not actually be correct, it wasn't "packed" at all, the (eBay) seller just put the postage labels on the Elinchrom box and dropped the whole thing in a post-box !! None-the-less, despite a severly damaged box, it does appear to of survived the trip OK. For those who were wondering, mine came with a translucent diffuser, and it did come with the genuine Elinchrom carry-case. I managed to get it assembled, without too many hassles, and hardly any swearing at all !! Next question is, How do I fold it up ? ? Right now it's sitting fully assembled in my family room and I was wondering if there is a easy way to fold it up ? I believe that the object of the exercise will be to leave it "assembled" with all the rods still in the speedring ? Someone mentioned there was a video showing the preferred way, and while I looked, YouTube is not being my friend right now !!!Thanks guys, If your arms are long enough, you can do this...
