Sweet! Combine that with a rolling cart, a BXri, Mic/Peter's mondo flash bracket and the Strobella and you've got yourself a perfect location kit! :)

Yeah i think it's the really old style. This is the new style:
QUOTED IMAGE

Rounded, not so square.

And a Jill Greenberg video for good measure: http://www.youtube.com …8v8tJmS1w&feature=related (external link)

Well, my ringflash came in today and the front looks exactly like the one pictured above. I was surprised to see how small and light it really is. I was expecting it to be a little bigger and a little heavier. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

But, man, what a pain it is to get it mounted on a stand and even worse, getting a camera mounted on the mounting bracket of the ringflash. I don't really care to go through such nonsense every time I want to use it so I ended up attaching an AS QR plate on the bottom of the mounting bracket (for a quick and easy mounting on the tripod) and attaching a Wimberley clamp on top of the mounting bracket (for a quick and easy mounting of the camera). (I just love the AS QR system! :))

I'm going to be using the ringflash primarily for fill so I ordered a Hensel standard reflector (white) for it. Not sure how long it's going to take but I hope it won't be as long as it took you, Brendan, to get yours. :|

It's sorta like the Deep Octa, or ... the first time having sex.

You've got your hands all over hoping for the best and in the end you get it, but what a ride :) It'll get easier. You don't break down the bracket everytime, so i just put the camera on in one motion and attach whatever modifier with the two screws... I have it setup usually under a minute maybe 2.

Size wise, yeah that's what i was saying before. It's really small. Smaller than PCB's and probably lighter too. I can't wait to do more testing with it in the winter. Where did you end up ordering the reflector from?

I could camp with that and not have a problem for a week

Well if I throw the strobella in I will be out of power after 100 shots
that thing eats light

Adorama. At least they don't charge your credit card until they actually ship. They do have the silver reflector (at least, I think they do because they didn't say that it was temporarily out of stock) but I wasn't sure if it would be as suitable for fill lighting as the white would be. Unless, maybe, if I put a (DIY customized) sock over it.

Yeah i think white is the way to go on these. Considering the distance and already very high specularity of the light... a little softening goes a long way.

OK, here's some shot with the Super-Rig! (TM) from the other day. They're pretty much SOOC because work is so nuts right now...

All shot at 1/250th. Quadra was on about 5.0, IIRC, using the std Quadra reflector (ie way too wide). It was VERY bright, as you can tell by the hard shadows.

Pretty happy with the Quadra, TBH.

Great pics Mic. Suspect you were fairly close to get f/22?
You may have seen this, I now use the Kirk Action Grip and Kirk L Plate which makes for easier portrait shooting. Also Arca attachment is surer. I throw the Quadra battery in a backpack and I'm off shooting. The Skyports makes it easy to adjust power on the fly.

Mmmm, saw that. The advantage of the Manfrotto was that a good mate had one sitting in a drawer, so hiring/purchase cost was zero :-)

However, it's time I made a switch to the AS system. Which means switching the head on my tripod (Gitzo 2541), as I've got a Gitzo tripod/head combo, and so it only takes Gitzo plates.

So I'll be after a head, and all the associated bits, and an L-plate.

Sigh...

Any suggestions? Biggest rig that will go on it is a 1DsmkIII and a Canon 70-200/2.8IS.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

I live in So Cal. We have had one in the past 5 years. Well we know the next one is soon because 1. Murphy's law 2. It will go out once I put all of that on the grid

They were throwing these out so I just asked if I could have them. They tried to give me 3 more set ups like that

we have the new smart UPS ones now.

Mic, just tell your friends you are shooting girls in bikinis and they will load it up for you  But a dolly can handle it. If I just use the one, the pelican case can handle it.
