Speaking of gels, what do you guys do if you want to use them on the BD? Just tape a big ass sheet over the satellite dish?

I would imagine that you can just cut out a perfect fit and tape it or whatever on the sides. If you put it on the inside of the lip just a bit then I doubt you'd see a noticeable light leakage. That's my experience from messing around with various things.

Must be nice. I am locked up in a cubical at work.

....well....I was fixing a broken handle in an unheated barn on a wheelbarrow that we use to haul horse manure out of the stalls. It's 25 degrees here.

But having said that, even though it has absolutely nothing to do with Eli lights.....yes, I guess it's preferable to being in a cubicle.....

I could tell you about my exciting new ballhead from Matthews. Naw....nevermind.....

While we're on the subject, does anyone have a photo of the Gel Jawz being used in a softbox? Do you use this same method when using a deflector? Are 12"x12" gels large enough?

Bueller?

Mola Demi + grid/case/diffusion sock arrived today! Looks like one seriously sweet dish. It has the PAD (perforated aluminum diffuser) which is a little hot in the center from a couple quick test shots that I've done. I'm going to add the Opal Glass diffuser and stack the two together as well as get the Elinchrom Frosted Dome for the Ranger head to help throw a little more light sideways within the dish.

I'm curious to see if the frosted dome will make a difference when used with other modifiers like the HP Sports reflector or a Deep Octa with no diffusers.

Dave - before you say anything... I'm done after this. I promise I'll quit!

Yeah, right.

Mate, it's VERY funny :-)

In other news, Kayell has my replacement heads and leads in, so I'll grab them on the way home from work. Reasonably happy with the turnaround time.

Rob is the light merely following the corners of the gel sheet which are wrapped around the dish ?

if you made a square cardboard gel holder and cut out a perfect circle i doubt you would see what your describing

HI Martin,

Yes, I believe you're right. If you were to make the equivalent of a gel or accessory holder then I think the problem is solved.
