I do OK communicating with a single subject when using a 200mm or 300mm focal length. I would imagine things get a lot tougher with couples and groups, especially a weddings or events.

Modifiers are extremely cheap when compared to high quality lenses. The lowest priced L is about the same as any of the indirects. Depends on how far you go, a used 200 1.8 is like a low end Bron Para.
