You do realize that it's a little bigger than a Strobella, don't you? :)

the strobella cost less than 5$ to ship to sheldon

so going by that, the strobella softens the shadow by 1
this will make teh shadow transition 10 feet? going by that it should cost like 15$

Speaking of the strobella WTF ed. where is it? Is Mic still hording it?

I have to keep my drool bucket near by when I view images of Hasselblad's.

I want to use one. Maybe we can buy one in a couple of years for the company and hopefully will get to show off the pics just to tease everyone. Mwahaha :p The MP count would be so awesome for the stuff I shoot; unlimited cropping, here I come!

That would certainly require some serious processing power for viewing and editing on the computer.

Indeed. What a nightmare but it's not that expensive to build a PC that could handle it if you can afford such a camera in the first place. We'd probably have to have two or three of these comps though but that's still a couple years away or even next year. Things have been improving and hope it stays this way.

Congrats on it working great :D

I wish! Could have used the help, but it was all the way in Rancho Cucamonga. Besides, you were probably still drooling on your pillow by the time I was setting up at 10:30am. The softlighter would probably still be alive if you were there helping out! Uneven surface + no leveling leg on the stand + no sandbags = FML

Odd question but well still worth asking maybe someone have the answer. :)

Going to use medium format film soon, wonder how Quadra will work with it? (Should be the same as digital?) Anything to look out for?

And also for portraits any film recommended?

Good to see the spending spree is still alive.

The Quadra is a little underpowered for Medium format. You'll need to use a narrower aperture to get the same depth of field you'd achieve using 35mm.

Portrait films - Fuji Astia was the king. Discontinued in the UK. Provia is easier to get hold of - has a bit more contrast & saturation which may be to your taste.

I shoot 35mm and large format film. Don't use medium format with film as there seems little point with the quality of 35mm DSLRS being so high. If you want to learn with film, I'd suggest at least starting with 35mm. It is infinitely simpler and cheaper but lets you get used to all the emulsions and quirks you'll have to deal with larger formats.

Yeah I feared that Quadra might not be powerful enough, but hey with 7 inch reflector it puts out quite bit of light. :) Just wont be soft enough.

Will have to look into the Provia, was looking on flickr the Kodak Portra NC film and that looks quite nice. (not too big fan of over saturated colours).

The university assignment is medium format film based, so not really my choice. :) Shoot on film and then scan the negatives. Already did 35mm B&W film earlier, was fun but I still like digital more. Also the uni don't do C41 which means I have to spend more money to get the film done somewhere.

So I've been un-buying gear lately...

Sent the Elinchrom frosted dome back after some tests and deciding that the deflectors were better for the majority of my uses.

Tried to get the Pocketwizard PowerST4 to work well for me, but couldn't. I spent several weeks of back and forth emails with the Pocketwizard beta team trying to sort out a few quirks that we could never overcome. It worked okay, but the range wasn't good enough and the quirks were a bit of an annoyance, so I decided to return it and stick with Skyports. Going to pick up a second Skyport transmitter instead, probably get the Speed version for build quality reasons.

Been doing a little shooting lately in lieu of gear buying. Here's my first ever time shooting on white seamless, in our living room. Did a freebie family portrait for some old friends who were in town visiting from Finland. Nothing fancy, but the light from the EL Octa sure does make it easy!

Pair of BXRi's with bare reflectors for the background, 74" EL Octa for the main.
