... The fact that the ends of the rods are locked in to the speed ring is very cool ...

Very cool indeed! I didn't realize the rod ends were held captive. That really does make things much easier.

Do you think the Chimera would be as good as my Amvona Dynaphos? ;)

Dave,

Just as reference....

I positioned the 54" x 72" horizontally and was shooting a la glamour lighting. With the softbox about 8 feet from the model, I took readings directly in front of the center of the box and then readings 18" or so in each direction off center. No change at all. I was also able to give my model 12-14" of front to back movement with no change in exposure.

That's really great and would also come in handy if you were shooting children that won't sit still.

since your on about the 54x72, here is a sample of it with the lighttools CU focus grid, 10' back aimed at the strobe

with 1 stop of fall off at the checker and 2 stops at the wall 8' away from the strobe ;)

I think I am going to have to buy some more lights :( And 2 c stands with grip arm

I am going to shoot a car and a girl in front of it (I know what Misha thinks of this  )
I am going to use the C stand with grip arm to hold some white nylon and have two strobes behind it to light the car making a loooong strip. It is going to be in the galactic huge studio. Thinking two strobes should blow out the BG?

Don't try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.

From my limited testing I'd say you should look into using a reflector that'll give you the wide coverage you'll need if you'll use strobes. Otherwise, I'm not sure it'll be enough unless you intend to put them really far back and at full power.

Yeah I was going to be using reflectors and probably with out grids for the BG and the big long home made strip.
I have the BXRi 500/500 going to borrow a dlite 4 (x2) and maybe another 500/500 set.

that would be 6 strobes
2 for the strip 2 for the BG 1 for the model. the extra one for BG or the strip as needed. I am scared I will need one more light for the BG and strirp.

You could always test that out beforehand with your own strobes. All you need to do is fire them off at the distances you think you'll have them at. You could always merge the images too for extra accuracy.

Sounds like enough power but what I'm wondering is if your reflectors will be wide enough. Guess you can test it out like I mentioned. That sounds more fun than the shooting I'm off to go do now.

Nice shots on the last couple of pages :)

I still can't believe the Ranger RX in the For Sale section hasn't sold, the price is nearly criminal to the seller.

That guy from Canada was bugging me about the price and PMs and I know quite well he's not gonna buy it because I'm not shipping to Canada, that's why I just throw that price on him and said only for him.

The person that bought it, came to my house and paid cash plus a 24-70L and we've made friendship out of it.
I didn't saw any of you guys on the listing thread and I specifically list it for one of you.
