Hi, I am new to this forum and I am thinking about getting my first bigger "flash". I don't want to spend much money on it, so for start I picked elinchrom D-lite-it 4 400Ws which should be enough, but I have few questions:

1) What else do I need in case I shot automotive photo? (tripod, power supply etc.)
2) Is it ok if I use non-elinchrom accesories like softboxes etc., could these damage the flash?
3) What is the cheapest way to power flash like D-lite-it 4 in outdoor?
4) I would like to still use my 430EXII which I am triggering remotely (Canon 7D), what's the solution to trigger them both at same time?

I will be happy for any advice, cause I am truly beginner in this.

Welcome aboard and congrats!!!

Tripod would be nice but not really needed if you are not making a composite. If you are then yes you need a tripod.
If you are going on locaiton with out power you will need a power supply (generator or battery system.)

2
No as long as the mount is right and the umbrella shaft is the right size you are fine. I am using Calumet genesis reflectors.

3
An extension chord. I use a back up UPS for a place that has no power.

4
I have a 7D I use the pop up flash (triggers speedlgiht) and put the Elis in optical slave.

Stickler!

And it's the F830RH (Ratchet Handle) in my prior post ;)

EDIT:

Viewed another way, the maximum upward tilt of a boom or grip arm that would allow the F830 pin to hang vertically:

http://farm6.static.flickr.com …76363423_eb056446b7_o.jpg (external link)

And another EDIT:

Just for the sake of completeness, same as above but with the E700 drop down pin:

Dave F.

NOW, who's the stickler. Only an "S" separates an "R" from a "T". LOL ;)

I was wondering why the "limited" range of the F830 was never an issue for me and after looking at your pictures, it dawned on me that I attach my F830 at right angle to the boom arm, not in line with it. :)

I really hate you American folk sometimes. Avenger here is HARD to find and extremely expensive, it's just not justifiable to "go grab another drop down pin". We basically have to wait until we want something heavy from B&H and then piggy back all the small grip gear with it.

Don't get me started on trying to buy decent stands here. . .

Heck, here in New York the streets are positively littered with Avenger junk. We have to step over piles of it all the time.

Psssht I wish it was like that here. LA with all the movie stuff going on, its just nuts. I swear they must give them away for happy meals from McDonalds. Like if there is dust on it, to the dump it goes. I should take a picture next time.

It's even bad down here in D.C. I drive a 4x4 pickup so I can just go over the piles of stands instead of having go around them like I would in a normal car.

Heck, here in Minnesota, I might be the only one that's ever heard of it.

Sigma, how's that shoot coming along? Been hard for me to keep up with this site. Busy with a brick and mortar opening up in a month or so.
