A little off Elinchrom topic but people here are the people I know and value opinions of. I'm looking at a Compact for taking to the city with my girlfriend and maybe even BTS videos if I ever get organised enough

I'm thinking along the lines of a Lumix Lx5 or a Canon S90/95. I don't really know a whole lot about compacts but would like to keep to around a $500 budget.

Cheers,

I'd go the Lx5 or G12 or whatever its up to.. Comes with hotshoe so the whole elinchrom shebang is still usable (if you ever want lol)

I've never done this before, but here's a link to a short behind-the-scenes video showing what we do for each shoot. Gear used: Elinchrom 600 RX, Elinchrom deep Octa, Elinchrom Maxi Spot, Elinchrom Quadra "A" head, Elinchrom Skyport. Hope you enjoy.

I got it from Vistek (www.vistek.ca (external link)). The part number is 245390. I paid $49.95 plus $33.68 shipping. That probably included customs duties.

Thanks, Curt. Much appreciated. :)

Since everyone here is ok with some veering off topic, I figured I would contribute to that cause by reporting my absolute delight with B&H once again.

I've finally gotten around to replacing and upgrading light stands and grip in the studio. For quite a while now I've been telling myself I was going to get a pair of Avenger 5017's and the other day I ordered one. Well, after a day of using it and really loving everything about it I figured I would go ahead and get the second one.

These days B&H pricing is like the stock market and they fluctuate so often. When I placed my order for the first stand two days ago it was $156.90. When I checked the price this morning before ordering, it was up to $188.50.

I needed to order some other items and I happened to ask whether they could honor the price I got 2 days ago and within a minute the salesman had authorization to give me that price. He also told me that in general, if you are within a few days of a price change they can usually get authorization to give that price. Something to think about when you see that you just missed out on lower pricing.

I guess I can tie all this to 'Elinchrom users only -watcha got?' by saying that Elinchrom lights will be mounted to the Avenger 5017's.

Now I'm off to research a few other stands.

Just in case people question the cost and worth of pricey light stands from Avenger, Manfrotto, Matthews, etc. I can now vouch for the quality and construction of these things. Really superb.

I've had two A660s (former model designation of the A5017) for quite awhile. They really are the bee's knees. Just be mindful of the smallish footprint.

Rob,
adorama has been great to me. I ordered my BXRi set up and a week later the rebates came out. I said I wanted to return the ones i got and order another set in the rebate dates. They just made another invoice so I had the rebate date :D

B&H has been good too never had a problem with them.

I am using calumet stands right now. They are pretty good, I am happy with them

Oh dang, I should have thought of that too when I ordered my BXRi's. Bought 2 strobes on the last Bing cashback day. Let me go find a corner to cry in.

It's sorta like the Deep Octa, or ... the first time having sex.

You've got your hands all over hoping for the best and in the end you get it, but what a ride :) It'll get easier. You don't break down the bracket everytime, so i just put the camera on in one motion and attach whatever modifier with the two screws... I have it setup usually under a minute maybe 2.

Size wise, yeah that's what i was saying before. It's really small. Smaller than PCB's and probably lighter too. I can't wait to do more testing with it in the winter. Where did you end up ordering the reflector from?

Adorama. At least they don't charge your credit card until they actually ship. They do have the silver reflector (at least, I think they do because they didn't say that it was temporarily out of stock) but I wasn't sure if it would be as suitable for fill lighting as the white would be. Unless, maybe, if I put a (DIY customized) sock over it.

Well, the ringflash standard white reflector came in an hour ago so I'm thrilled to death that I didn't have to wait so long of it. It just took Adorama a week and a half to get it delivered to my door! :)

And at $50 cheaper than from B&H, I was afraid the honeycomb grid would not be included with reflector. But it was! Only thing is, the grid doesn't seem to fit very well over the reflector (not really centered properly). Is there supposed to be a trick to installing it so it's centered correctly?

It didn't come with instructions so I had to check out Brendan photos (https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=9617261&postcount=34) to make sure I got the reflector mounted correctly onto the ringflash. I initially ended up with two extra thumb nuts before I checked the photo. :o :| LOL

This is delightful, plus I never would have thought to use a leaf blower as a wind machine for hair -neat, and lovely photos too.

I forget what the dates were. But yeah it was a 100$ prepaid card. I think it was about two months ago
