Question for you guys, when you use the DO or BD are you using the included filters?
I have a translucent (clear), white, gold color and silver that were included with the DO and 17" BD.
I know that the gold would probably be used during the golden hours of the day, the white would probably further soften, but the translucent and silver?

Happy Shooting:lol:

Just try them, the difference is subtle yet visible. I mainly use silver and white.

Subtle is good. I learned that after the first time I used a gold reflector during the golden hour. Waaay overkill.

Throw away the gold deflector (or give it to someone you don´t like)... :) ;)

Now, honestly, I don´t like the golden one.
Using the white one (which actually lets light go through) will reduce the hot spot, the frosted/translucent one doesn´t do much in my opinion.
I used the silver one in the silver beauty dish. I quite liked that.

But just try them out, a few people here actually even like the golden one.

Cheers, Zwicko

gold can be okay when shooting people with dark skin (I believe Robert shares this view)...but even then, it can be a bit strong.

I find the difference between white and silver to be strikingly different. I love them both and over time I'm gravitated more towards the silver for the contrast and pop and sparkle in the eye. I still use white. Just not as often.

I actually like the Sunfire or Zebra reflectors that are 50% silver, 50% gold. It's a nice blend and looks beautiful on very tan and dark skin. It can look terrible on light and pale skin and you really have to want that bronze. I find it harder to pull that out than to add some warmth in post, so these days I'm not using anything with gold in it.

doh! I thought we were talking about DEflectors. not reflectors. Carry on.

(gold reflectors are forever overkill)

Just in case:

I never use gold interiors or gold deflectors in my main or fill powered lights. I occasionally use a Sunfire reflector as a fill source, but most often use silver, followed by white.

The main difference I see between silver and white in a white beauty dish is that the silver one can be seen in catch lights. The white one is invisible, since it let's just as much light leak through as the beauty dish reflects.

The white is not invisible. Placement and intensity will determine how much of a catch light is present but for every light source there is a catch light. If you took a white reflector and held it close to your subject you'd see a reflection.
