you can look here for rating on CentralDigital.com: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Digital_MegaStore (external link)

They seem to have a lot of the very lowest and the very highest ratings. Seems fishy. Compare to B&H or Adorama which are rated very highly. I think sometimes these two bit stores write their own reviews to counter the ones that are trashing them. Or sometimes you have to read the bad reviews to see what happens when the transaction is not perfect.

My vehicle was broken into about a year ago. I had my gear with me in the arena photographing an indoor soccer match. However, they did get about $1000 worth of other items.

When someone robbs you like that they are actually taking away a piece of your life. How many hours of your life did you have to work to pay for the items they stole?
If I were on the jury, I would try to get the max sentence, if in a state that lets the jury have a say into that. People who make their living taking other people's property are useless, usually dopers. One way or the other, they need to be out of the society.
That is my rant for the day.

I called Central Digital and they told me the 7D was grey market and they would warranty the product but not Canon. That does not work for me so I did not buy it there.

I called Grand Central Photo who had a 7D body listed at $899.00 and new it was too good to be true and it was. They were out of stock and try to get you to buy batteries and other crap way over priced. I did not buy it there.

I did buy the 7D just now from Beach Camera and paid the full $1,499.00 and got the pixma 9000 for $399.00 and the Canon $400 rebate. So the printer was basically free and I don't have to worry about grey market or warranties and what not.

Tamron is also running some rebates on lenses right now. The 90 Macro has a $50.00 rebate and the 10-24 has a $100 rebate, so I am going to get both of those again. There is also a rebate on the 17-50 both with and without IS so I may pick one of those up instead of the 28-75.

I will probably get the canon 580ex II instead of replacing the 430exII as well.

Hey Mike,

I was in Pacific Beach on Garnet ave. I work at the granite and tile shop right next to Wasabi Sushi and across from Weinerschnitzel. My tuck was in the Wasabi Sushi parking lot.
I gave the cops all the serial numbers so if they try to pawn the stuff it should turn up.
Most likely they will trade it to a drug dealer and the dealers know not to pawn that kind of thing.

I am sure the guys that took it had no clue the value of it.

I hate leaving my stuff in the car. I don't like to expose it to the heat and I stash it in the trunk when parking, but almost always forget to move into a more secure spot in the backseat or frontseat when driving.

Uhoh this is in SD huh. Fortunately I don't drive so I won't have to worry about having it stolen from my car. Will be keeping an eye out for your stuff though, and sorry to hear about your loss.

Having a lot of gear stolen will give you a feeling of "Sickness" like you've never experienced before. I know, I had over $1400 worth of gear stolen while on vacation in Costa Rica back in the early '80s .... and I emphasized to a friend that we were in a risky area and to keep an eye on it .... well ...

I'd bet your gear was lifted by someone who knows you or at least saw you with it once before. It may be worth it to make yourself stand out like a sore thumb, backpack and other bags in hand, parade yourself around the same crime area and take your time putting everything in your truck ..... then set up the low life just to stomp a mudhole in his a**.

You may have to set it up more than once.

Wouldnt it be some s#!t if the thief was lurking on this forum?

just had to post an update and say that State Farm is taking good care of me.
Greg Davis is my agent if anyone needs to set up a policy.
The things I neglected to put on my personal articles policy, my renters policy is picking up.

So instead of $3,600 I am getting $5,600 net to me after paying my $500 deductible. If I had kept my personal articles policy up to date better I would not have had to eat the $500....lesson learned.

...............
Now the agonizing process of deciding which new lenses, tripod and ballhead configuration to purchase with that money.

I got a excel spread sheet of so many different lens options and prices and what not it is driving me (and the wife) crazy.

Can I get some opinions please....just to confuse me more.
I want to get the best bang for the buck and for what I do don't feel the need to buy "L" glass or even canon if I can get near equivalent for half the money, unless convinced otherwise.

I already repurchased a new 7D, Tamron 90 macro, tamrac bag, cf cards, the yongnuo 468 and 2 460II's and triggers.
But I need to make some decisions on lenses.

#1
Tamron 10-24 for $399 (after rebate) or Tokina 12-24 f/4 $499
#2
Tamron 17-50 for $414 (after rebate) or tamron 28-75 ( I had and loved this lens but it was a little cramped indoors on a crop)

Then some longer zoom options...leaning sigma 70-200 (non is) and 150-500os.

gah I have a million more lens options questions............this could go on for a long time so I will try not to bother you guys with it too much.

...then their is tripod and ballhead options..and filters...and...and ???:~(

at least I am not out too much money.

This past summer I was near downtown Indianapolis taking pictures at night and a guy walked up to me and asked if I wanted to buy his camera, he wanted to sell me a 50D with a 70-200 f4 for $250. He said it was way over his head and he didn't know how to use it. I asked a few questions and he couldn't answer any of them...where he bought it (walmart), how much he paid ($450). Then I commented that the lens must be cheap because it's white and he said that's why he's only asking $250.

I showed my badge, I'm a police officer, and confiscated the camera bag and towed his car. There was another bag with a flash and another lens inside the car. It took three months, but State Farm was able to identify the 70-200 by the serial number and they were able to find the victim. He had already been reimbursed, so the camera gear was picked up by State Farm....but, they guy trying to sell the gear was charged with theft and got a couple years of probation. (criminals don't go to jail in Indianapolis..)

The moral of this story is....well, there isn't one...enjoy your new gear and hopefully your premiums won't take a big hit! I hate theives! vmad

I cannot even get the detective to call me back about my case. I have more serial numbers to give him to put in the data base. State Farm did not even ask for serial numbers. It seems very strange.
I made my own list of items, models and serial numbers and have been faxing them to local pawn shops, and scanning Craigslist and ebay for my stuff.

Even though I am getting paid out on it, I hate the fact that some scum bag has my stuff.

Call the precinct and ask for a supervisor. They absolutely need those serial numbers. There's no way you can cover all of the pawn shops on your own. They will have access to every pawn shop, and they will all submit those serial numbers is the equipment is pawned.
