I don't understand the reason for taking "all" your gear to just take some pics of counter tops??

I usually take my main pack with my camera and all lenses. I just like to have it with me just in case I need it.
I do not always take my tripod, multiple flashes, wireless triggers, stands, umbrellas etc etc etc.
I took them because it can be very tricky to light and take pictures of interiors and especially granite. Very reflective surface which is why I bought the Hoya HD CPL...which they got as well.

Try taking pictures of a kitchen with granite tops sometime, it is not as simple as you would think.

I hear everyones pain. In the Philippines, where car theft is extremely high, I make it a habit to always bring my gear with me regardless of where I go or what I do. My wife always makes fun of me because I always my backpack with me.

Do you think this was an "inside job"? Maybe one of the workers overheard you were coming and waited for you to go inside.

>I don't understand the reason for taking "all" your gear to just take some pics of counter tops??

You really have to take everything to a shoot, as you have to be prepared for any photo situation. Shooting granite counter tops is like shooting mirrors... tricky!

I keep my Jeep Grande Cherokee a mess inside so it just looks like a lot of garbage inside... and it is. But been thinking of making an tread plate cover for the back with a lock so it will deter a smash, grab and run.

well I got most of my gear replaced (just waiting for my yn460II's to show up) and I made a new list for the insurance company plus a photo for them...so I thought I would share it here.

What a relief to have my gear back (plus some) and to have this horrible experience behind me. If you do not have a personal articles policy on your gear, I highly suggest getting one now. This would have been really devastating if I had not had it.

I really hate thieves.

Today I needed to go to a job site and take some pictures of our work (granite countertops and tile). So I had all my gear with me. Everything listed in my signature and more. Well I went to my office after to take care of some business and while I was in there someone smashed the rear window of my truck and stole everything. My camera bag with all my lenses, second bag with all my flashes, filters and accessories and my tripod.

I am just sickened.

I do have a personal articles policy for most of my camera gear, but unfortunately I forgot to update it when I bought the 7d and the sigma 50. All the rest of my stuff is on it.

I never leave my camera gear in my car. I always grab my pack and take it into the office with me. This time I had lunch in my hands and some samples so my hand were full and I was just going to be an hour.

And thats all it took.

I recently sold my 28-135is to a member here and paypal just cleared so I was going to ship it today. That lens was in a box next to all my other gear, and amazingly that was the only thing that was not stolen. So RWatkins I will ship you your lens tomorrow. Sorry for the delay as I was stuck filling out a lengthy police report today.

Looks like I will be in the market for new (used) gear once the insurance money comes through.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. I always hide it from sight or put it in the trunk and lock it. You never can be too careful, certain stuff is just tough to replace.

My Camera, Pro Audio gear, Guitars, Amps, Drums... it's all too valuable to let some idiot ruin everything I've worked so hard for. Good thing you have the insurance, as the price of my camera equipment starts going up... I keep considering insuring my stuff.

I keep my TV's, Audio Gear, Guitars and amps on renters insurance...but stuff that leaves the house like camera gear needs personal article policy. You have a 5dII? that is worth insuring right there. It is really inexpensive to get a policy.

Don't you wish people would work for things they want instead of steal. That sucks man.
