I don't know if it was "discovered" before, but I just found out that reversed Nikon 35-80 lens fits precisely inside the Kenko extension tube ! It holds there firmly enough so no adapter or tape needed. And I have full manual aperture control !

Here's how it looks

and all together setup

a quick shot of a pencil with this setup. Uncropped, slightly PPed.

Interesting setup, thanks for sharing.

G'Jim c):{- ... 2x 50D (Both Gripped), 2x 7D (Both Gripped), 2x 5D Mk II (One gripped), 1x 60D, assorted glass (10-800mm), sundry accoutrements.
The beginner clicks the shutter and says "Let's see what I got." ... The experienced photographer thinks "How can I capture what I see?"

I tried exactly same setup.

Here's first quick snaps. Uncropped JPG straight from camera, only resize, no other PP.

wow, that's impressive magnification! but IQ noticeably suffers from all these stockings.

One more extender, and you can look inside that hole in the eye!:)

However, those were handheld and I took only few shots, so I might try next time with a tripod to see if it helps, and shoot more. And find more recently deceased fly.

I think the fly's head is between 1-2mm wide, so that'd give magnification somewhere between 10-20x.

First finding the fly's head with the viewfinder (@F11 (does this go up with the extender?)) was pain in the butt, then trying to see if it was in focus...
