Friends,

Yesterday we went to the race track in the Yahuarcocha lagoon. We decided to make it a photo-day amongst my father (rpolitsr), my cousin and I. We each took our own Canon cameras (in the above order): Rebel XT with 18-55 II, 20D with 28-135 IS, and Rebel T2i with 18-55 IS.

We had great fun trying to get the most out of our equipment. We found ourselves a bit limited by the focal range of our lenses (specially the two kit ones), but I was really excited to find out that, with the 18MP sensor, I still have some latitude to play with at the time of cropping. We were fortunate to be able to stand almost inside the race track (and lucky that nothing happened being so close to the cars ) which helped.

Here are some of the shots I liked best from my T2i: one from the Classical category, the other two from the Prototype category.

As with everything, it takes learning and a lot of practice I assume... I have been looking at some of the work here and it is really fantastic. So I look forward to critique, suggestions and comments.

I was panning at 1/100th for the Prototypes, the Classical car was a 1/500th. The day was shifting between a nice sunny day and an overcast sky, but the main section of the circuit was in shadow for the most part of the event.

Thanks in advance,
Rafa.

Thanks for the comments.

You have really good pictures in that collection!, both for Motorsports and scenery alike.

I have a feeling that motorcycles seem more prone to convey speed when photographed than cars because the angle denotes the speed and everything can be in focus and you get the feeling. With cars, I had the feeling they might look as parked cars if I opted for super high speed shutters, so I tried the panned photos.

Of course, it takes some practice I believe, and this first attempts were the sharpest ones. I'll try to post some more images as they are developed and chosen by the pilot.

Thanks again,
Rafa.

Yes, I agree, panned shots do look better, I just don't seem to be able to get the hang of it at all though. thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

Thanks for the coments!

One more, probably one of my favorites from the day. I liked the mood of the image, it appears as a lonely traveler by dusk instead of a car in a busy race (which it was, since there were 5 different categories all at the same time):
