Looking at this EF 50mm f1.8 lens used...

Says that it's metal with window... I assume that means metal body with window to show focus distance. No picture though... is this a good lens? Is it anything like the 50mm f/1.8 II?

The only differences I'm aware of between the mark I and II was that mark I had a metal lens mount and a distance scale. Optically, they are supposed to be identical.

I think the person is trying to say it has a UV filter on it....I suspect that is what the *52 means.

are both MKII and MKI 52mm? That's a more uncommon size i believe. Honestly, the MKI is just cool because of the metal mount. Not worth the money over the MKII to me. I'd just splurge and go for the MKI

52mm is the filter size that fits on the 50 1.8

Thanks Bob_A... I'm trying to figure if it's worth it for the metal mount versus the plastic mount. I've started looking into prime lenses recently... the 85mm f1.8 is my 1st. I love how tack sharp it is, and it's a low light performer too. But the price of the 50mm f1.4 is like 3 times that of the 50mm f1.8 II. I saw this and thought... "a 50mm with metal mount and a distance scale, this might be worth a look."

I'm still wondering what it looks like... does it have the same look as the MKII except with a window for the distance scale or more like the 50 f1.4?

I had the Mk2, it's not a great lens IMHO, the 1.4 is much better optically, and has a much more accurate focus motor. I get a lot more keepers with the 1.4.

Micro USM. Awesome lens though. On a 1.6 crop its a very useful portrait lens.

The 1.4 feels much better than the 1.8 II.
