I D/L'd "Adjust", "Clean", and "Detail" and find them 'interesting'... Getting some real interesting results - some are pretty damn neat !!! However, does anyone use any of these programs on a continuing basis, or are they something that went by the wayside once the novelty wore off ??

tks,

I don't use any of those, but I am using Denoise 5, and I use it a lot. It's fast, easy, and effective. I bought it based on another posting I saw on here somewhere. I found it very useful. Are the ones you have useful, or just toys?

That's usually the case. Garish filter effects quickly become boring.

I like Topaz Adjust. Have used it for over a year with PS. I don't use it on everything, but I do use it often. It's especially good for fine-tuning noise reduction. I've also created several "custom defaults" with it.

For me it gives quick and relatively detailed control, from subtle to garish, depending on what I'm looking for. Personally, I think it's a great and convenient tool.

I use the Topaz suite fairly regularly. Denoise 5 is probably my most used of the suite. Adjust and Detail are more useful to me if I create a layer and adjust the opacity to make the filter more subtle.

I'll use Adjust every once in a while for an effect. I use Detail & Clean the most. I've got a couple of subtle presets I use. As anything, it can be way overdone.

I use Adjust on a regular basis for certain photos, but as noted, you have to be careful not to overdo it.

I use Adjust occasionally. As I mentioned in another thread "I like applying the effects of those filters selectively. Especially if people are in the image. You can tone down or completely erase the Topaz adjustment from faces, etc. You can use it to draw the viewers eye to your subject much like selective focusing. Have the effect applied say to an old automobile then brush away the effect from the rest of the image."

I've been using Topaz Adjust for years now. I love it. I almost bought the Nik Filters and a pro photog told me to give Topaz a try first. End of story, I was hooked. I use it on all of my real estate shots. I took one of the presets and tweaked it to better serve me. My copy came with Denoise built in. I have had so many clients ask me how I make the photos look the way they do. I just say 'magic camera', but I have the only one. When they ask me about software, I tell them I have about $1,500 in software and I use different software for different shots. That is true, to some degree. LOL But, Topaz Adjust is used on every single real estate photo I shoot and it makes a world of difference. The only other way to achieve the same results would be to apply multiple layers masks in PS, which takes way too long.

I use Topaz Detail quite often. I find that it is better than Photoshop's sharpening filters for bringing out fine details such as these without creating halos.

Peano...that's very crisp and looks great. Will you share any settings you use with the topaz filters such as Detail? I've recently purchased the suite and am just learning how to tweak some of the built in presets.

I would be glad to, but I adjust the settings to suit each image. I don't use any of the presets.

I may try Topaz Detail. Through the years I've tried various plugins and techniques using Photoshop. Like you suggested in your later post here a lot depends on the image. I've used several sharpening processes on an image at times to see what looks best. Never found one that works on everything :)

I love love love DeNoise. I downloaded it to use on some wedding photos, and I've never gotten so many comments about my photos being crisp and clean. I'm definitely buying it. I'm thinking about Detail and Clean also. I think I'll dl those tonight.

I don't think you'll find one that works on everything. I most often use USM with an edge mask. Here's an action (link below) that stamps the image on top of all layers, converts it to a smart object, builds an edge mask, and applies USM. Since it's a smart object, you can open the USM dialogue and re-adjust it. You can also change the default settings I put inside the action.

You need at least two layers in order for the action to run. If you have just the background image, you can open a levels adjustment layer, and that will serve as the second layer.
