Nice pictures. I wonder if it may make sense to lower the shutter speed a bit (white still freezing the motion) to allow lower ISO, although I am sure 1D mark 4 could handle noise very well.

I adjust my ISO to get 1/1600 to 1/2000. At dusk it can be tough to be perfect with this. In my experience at a shutter speed slower than 1/1600 you may still get motion related blur.

Excellent shots. I think you're right to stick with the higher shutter speed with soccer as motion blur at lower speeds can often end up looking like camera shake.
You should be able to get away with anything from 1/800 and higher. 1/500 I've used in really bad light where the ISO was pushed to the limit. It works, but you can get the odd blurred shot.
