Hi one and all,

I would like to get the general public's feedback on what URL would be best to use for a website I'm setting up. My name is Kevin Miller and my Photography business name is KM Photography. I have the following URLs that I could use.

kmillerphoto.com
kmphotography-online.com
photographybykevinmilller.com
kevinrmiller.com

What one do you think would be easiest for people to use/remember? Do you have any suggestions on different ones I could use? Of course the ones I'd really like to use are already taken but these are some I could get.

I'd greatly appreciate any feedback I can get.

Thanks!

Your name and the URL really should be consistent. I assume kmphotography.com not available? If that's the case, if it were me, I'd consider changing the name of the business.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah. kmphotography.com isn't available. I'd hate to have to go that route and would like to find an alternative option.

Personally, I'm not crazy about your other choices. I would somehow try to key off your name: kmphoto.com, kmfoto.com, or maybe even kmp.com if URL's are allowed to be that short.

I don't think there is any three character .com urls that haven't been taken.

Thanks again. Those all would be great but I guess there are a lot of "KM" photographers out there since everything I can think of has been taken.

Yep, sure has been taken. I agree that there probably isn't any left either.

kmillerphoto.com is my favorite it is short and simple, very easy to spell words,but.. to effectively register a domain you have to consider all possibilities. For instance..... You must register not just kmillerphoto.com but you must also have kmillerfoto.com. It doesn't stop there, now you must register k-miller-photo.com and k-miller-foto.com. I know it sounds like a lot but if your competition gets a hold of just one of those options he can point it to his site and siphon off some of your business. I used to work for a domain branding company and we saw things like this happen too often.

Oh one very important thing!! Do not check if a domain is available on a popular site such as go daddy or network solutions, they have a policy that whenever you search to see if a domain is available, if you do not then immediately register it with them, they will automatically register it for themselves and then auction it off 48 hours later to the highest bidder. It really sucks but it is totally LEGAL. The best way is to just type the name In your browser. if you need to check more, you can use"signaturedomains.com" or "Whois.com" those are safe domain search services.

Wow, great information. I had no clue about any of that stuff. Thanks for the post.

You really only need one domain name.

For example, I have mdvaden.com, but never mess around with getting mariovaden.com or m-d-vaden.com. Nor .net, .org, etc..

If someone is going to have a huge company, then maybe get all the variations. But a small company really only needs one. The reason being, your brochures and cards will only have the right domain name on them. And for searching for you online, owning a bunch of domains won't refine the search much, if at all.

I thought that kmphoto would be nice, but that's taken when I tried a search.

Have you thought of other variations like kmphotoshoot.com (which is available)?

There are scads of options available.

Of the 4 you listed, I liked the kmillerphoto.com best.
