Hey all, question for you all.
I have a 5dmk2, and I have no problem with shooting long exposures (all the way to 30 seconds) while using live view.

Well, a few other photographers I shoot with arent able to shoot 30 second exposures while using live view, but are limited to faster than a second. Do you know any reasons for this? Maybe it is because they have updated firmware while I am still using older versions? How long of exposure can you take with your 5d2 while being in live view?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I like to use LV for detail shots, ring shots, exterior shots, etc and having this limit on some of the cameras makes me nervous.

Thank you.

No problem by me shooting 30" with LV on. And I have latest firmware (2.0.7 I think.)

My guess is that they have the video mode enabled and they are actually unable to get the setting below 1/30th of a second - the frame rate. Are you sure they are taking stills?

I made this error once with my 1D Mark IV as I had screwed around with video once and tried to use live view a couple months later. The camera was trying to shoot video and I was sorely confused as to why I could not select slower than 1/30.

That sounds like the error there, as i remember is was at a 30th was the slowest it would go.

Try setting the LV settings to "Stills Only"
