It was 10/22/03 and I took my dog, Wicca, up to play in the old pump house pond on Mt Greylock in North Adams, MA. The pump house was used in the past to send water to Bascom Lodge located a few hundred feet up Greylock's peak, but now lie in decay. We were hit with an unforseen snow storm, a "freak" that made the papers the next day. (The date wasn't too early, it just caught forecasters - and me & Wicca - off guard) It took a few minutes for me to realize this wasn't just a squall and that we had to leave. I called the dog out of the water. The descent was slow, turning a 20 or so minute trip into an hour+ of cautious navigation as whiteness obscured the heavily pitched, narrow road.
