My 40D has some visible specs in the viewfinder, mainly two fibers of some kind (or hair?). Going in and carefully messing with it shifted the fibers (so I know it's not scratches or something) but didn't get them out.

It's no big deal but there must be a way to clean it?

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

A rocket blower pointed into the camera does the job!..if not..maybe just softly blow into it and check and see if the dust/hair was blown off the focusing screen.

uOpt,

I would try to rocket blower first, and if the stuff is still in the viewfinder, remove the focusing screen along with blowing it out. Be careful with the focusing screen - I would blow it off too - not wipe it!

I've got the same problem, and blowing doesn't work. Any directions on how to remove and clean screen?

Thanks...

I tried blowing before, didn't work. I think there is electrostatic adhesion.

How much is the image sensor exposed to this area? Can I damage the sensor or make it dirty by poking around with -say- a Q-tip with naphtha?

If you WIPE it with anything it will SCRATCH it, A mentioned earlier use a rocket blower or take it out and use the blower.

The sensor is covered with the mirror when looking through the viewfinder, yes a q-tip will scratch it up so bad you can't see through it clearly.
