Those prices are for refurbs through Canon direct, not through the loyalty program. I just confirmed with the rep on the phone that the prices are the same as before with Loyalty trade in. Buy a broken powershot and you save something like $200-300 after taxes.

Ahh...Thanks for the clarification. I might get a new toy as well.

Canon exchanged my busted 7D with a new one. I think Canon is going to try to sell my busted 7D with AF issues that they couldn't fix after 4 tries to someone?

Sigh... Refurbs mostly come from returns from chains or small stores. They can't be legally called new so they get inspected and sold as refurb. Refurbs are usually in better condition than units fresh out of the box from the factory.

I was sort of hoping they wouldn't come back...
So... anyone happen to know what they provide with a refurb body? :) Is it whiteboxed with just the battery and charger? Or does it come with some combination of all the original stuff (orig. box, cables, manuals, disks, strap)?

Refurbs are white boxed with everything that came originally.

How's the quality on Canon refurbs? Can you distinguish them from new?

The refurbed 50D I got from the loyalty program looked like new. However when I checked the shutter counts and it was at about 1900, so be aware that it may have had some use prior use and likely through Canon's testing it will acquire some counts. Still a good deal that's worthwhile.

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

Interesting. So you can just call them up and say you have a broken Canon camera and they'll offer to replace it via the loyalty program?
