I did a little PP, just adjusting the WB on both and crop on the first one.

I find, and maybe it's just me, that sharpening the eyes and a curves adjustment can bring out all of the potential of almost any portrait, do you mind if I edit to show what I mean?

I like the first one very much. Nice lighting, no raccoon eyes, colors seem good, and the skin tones are good, which is something I still have trouble with. Nice shot.

That's what I came up with after a quick 5 minute shop and upload, i find sharpening just brings the character and life back into eyes and the curves adjustment makes the colors a bit more vivid without making them seem unrealistic, it's kind of light an all in one quick
tool for lighting, contrast, saturation, levels, etc.

You have some very awesome children btw

EDIT: If you need any tutorials or anything photoshop related, feel free to drop a message in my inbox.

The second one appears to have a green cast to it. I like the first.

when you have two subjects one behind the other, you may want to consider a smaller aperture to get both subjects in focus, they are timeless otherwise, great job

#2 is interesting to me because it is so unusual. Based upon the title, I am guessing that this was a quick shot without a lot of time to set up?

My reason for asking is that the white object in the background is distracting to me. If you had time to set up the shot, you could have used a longer focal length on your lens to blur out the background more, or even recompose the shot to a better spot. On the other hand, if you had no choice and this is what you got because of the spontaneity of the moment, I would suggest that you try cloning out that white area.

I would also like to see a version of that photo in a contrasty b&w, I bet it would look pretty great!

The eyes in SSP's touch up are much improved. I can't make up my mind if the skin tones are an improvement or not.
