Hi Everybody,

I'm looking for a wide angle on my 1d classic. My 28-75mm is not wide enough for group shots and landscapes and I'm more a fixed length shooter in that range. I'm selling my 28-75mm and I'd like not have to invest more for the new lens. Are there other lens that would fit the bill?

I also considered the 17-40mm f/4L but it's 300$ more and 2mm longer than the sigma.

Btw here's my lens lineup right now: Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 (doesn't get much use), Canon 35mm f/2, Canon 50mm f/1.8, Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8

I'd get the 17-40mm. It's a great lens. Purchase it used for a much lower price.

It won't work on a 1D. There will be serious vignetting because it is designed for crop camera only.

I have the 15-30. It is a good lens. It has served me well. Especially with video stuff. Really good for that. I shot a whole music video with that:

I think it is the first video. Be forewarned, all the videos start at the same time, I don't know how to fix the code...

Here is a sharpness comparison of the two lenses.

Thanks Eclipsed, I knew the 17-40mm is sharper especially at lower apertures. But the main use for this lens will be landscapes at f/11-f/13 and the difference is minimal in these conditions.

17-40mm's are going for 2 times the price of the 15-30mm and the 2mm on the wider side is handy when you are on a 1.3 crop body. Are there any primes in this range worth looking at?

I wouldn't look for wide angle primes unless you have a ton of money to spend.

The 15-30 is a nice lens for the money, and when stopped down it's perfectly sharp. For what you want, that may be the only option I can think of. Canon's 16-35 is too expensive.

You're right, thanks for the reminder.
