Is there a suitable replacement modeling lamp that generates much less heat with the same output?

Could I use a florescent bulb?

I find I use the modeling light quite a bit but need to frequently shut it off so as not to melt the housing or modifier.

Does Elinchrom offer a tradeup to the newer fan cooled lights?

The stock modeling lamp has never melted any housing, at least none that I've heard. And when you say "first yen", did you mean first generation? Because I haven't heard of any from the non-IT either even without the smart cooling fans.

Yeah first gen lol sorry iPhone auto correction.

I notice on mine, in a softbox it starts to get very hot after 20-30 mins of continuous modeling light on full of even proportional power mode. So I end up turn it off and letting it cool down.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the D-Lite, but I'd worry more about the softbox. Is the softbox "flash only" or is it safe for hot lights/modeling lamps, too?

same output? no.

you can use other bulbs with the d-lite, however they must fit in the socket that extends beyond the flash tube. there aren't too many light bulbs that address the needs of being tall enough to extend beyond the flash tube.

The softbox is a Chimera brand and was used with profotos in the photo studio of my work. I took it when they were tossing it out and I'm guessing it's been used with what ever modeling light is in a profoto.

Well if you guys say it will be ok I'll keep using it this way.

The regular studio space I rent doesnt have great overhead lighting so AFing can be difficult sometimes. So I end up using the modeling light to AF on my subject.
