Quote from Canon's warranty terms.

"THIS LIMITED WARRANTY SHALL NOT PRODUCT, OR THE PERSON FOR WHOM IT WAS PURCHASED AS A GIFT, AND STATES YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY."

It certainly does not sound easy to understand... Does this mean you can get warranty repair for a lens you received as a gift? or not?

If someone give you as a gift, you can. Get a receipt to be safe maybe.

Since when is "product" a verb? That's what's tripping me up

The camera warranty terms here (external link) is easily worded, as it clearly states that the warranty can be covered to the gifted person.

However, the lenses warranty terms indicated here (external link) have different wordings...

For both links, pls click "warranty terms" under "service & repair" and look towards the last sentences.

There are specific meanings to all the legal terms. Using laymans terms or general terms would introduce ambiguity into the warranty that is not consistent with laws.

It's just an error on the web site. The legalese is missing the words "EXTEND TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE". Insert those words between "NOT" and "PRODUCT" and it comes out the same as the terms on the camera body.
