lost in thought: low light high iso CC

In particular a CC on skin tone and color. I used a 100mm f/2.8 at ISO 6400 hand held at low shutter speeds and it's rough. I feel blind at night at f/2.8. Any other CC welcome. Thanks in advance. Joe.

All I can say is you desperately need some lighting kit, if not you need to go where there is light and use some reflectors/diffusers.
Also looks to me like the woman should be in focus and not the man.
Skin tone is ok, but the image looks like it was taken on an iphone due to the ISO.
You've got a good camera and lens, but more importantly you need to understand the importance of light and get some lighting.

thinking about a single portable flash with wireless tether in some soft and directional control package on a stand and a bounce on another stand for support

Next a couple of sturdy stands and one light one, and then a couple of umbrella's or softbox's.

I currently use the following:
1x 580exii (it's a hard sell if your on a budget and like to work a flash manually most of the time)
1x YN-560 (Simply a fantastic cheap powerful flash, you wouldn't go far wrong getting 3 of these. Does NOT do TTL)
5x YN-460ii (Dirt cheap but nearly as powerful as 580EXii but lacks some functionality of the YN-560)

So my recommendation would be to get 3x Yongnou YN-560's and if you can afford it swap out a YN-560 for a 580exii.

Oh and get some cheap RF-602 triggers off ebay, they are super cheap yet reliable, and are a very good alternative to pocket wizards at a fraction of the cost.

how about the way you use 3 flash or more flashes ... are you lighting sets as well as subjects?

It all depends on what your shooting, on location you only probably need 1 flash but I like to use 2 or maybe 3 if I want to throw some light on a background or have a couple of rim lights to compliment the main flash.
In my opinion any more than 3 out side a studio/home studio setting is just unnecessary hassle particularly if you like to travel light.

assistants are a necessity also .. couldn't live with out my assistants any more

If you can't add any light, think about the 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8 (not so hot) or 50mm f/1.4.
You're always going to get some noise at the higher ISOs. One thing that helps is to only sharpen what needs it the most: Selection for sharpening illustration.
