If you can't add any light, think about the 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8 (not so hot) or 50mm f/1.4.
You're always going to get some noise at the higher ISOs. One thing that helps is to only sharpen what needs it the most: Selection for sharpening illustration.

I did a couple of passes of selective sharpening on the male. Soft capture, medium long lens, low light. I should have shot my 50 instead. I am in the middle of putting together some portable lighting and that's long over due.
I had the 50/1.2 and 85/1.2 at one time and they would have been ideal however I'm shooting a different set of lenses with a body that needs more time for exposure.
