Just wondering what your opinion is re 24mm 1.4 II vs 35mm 1.4 as a FF walkaround prime?

On a FF, definitely the 35mm.

I think you would find the 24mm to be a bit to wide.

When I go out without an idea of what I'm going to shoot, I take the 35L with me. The 24L would be excellent as well, but I'd have to give the edge to the 35 just because of the focal length (basically echoing Aionoko).

Only you can best answer which FL you would enjoy most on a walk-around.

The 35 is the way to go IMHO for FF. Both are great glass and focus but the 24 tends to be a bit wide at times. Now, if you will be using a crop along with the FF the 24 makes a great choice as well.
Are you looking more for the width or the speed ? I find the 35 to be just right in a lot of situations but for outdoor/nature shooting I tend to prefer the 24. If you are more into people/street shooting I suspect you will find the 35 a better choice. I have at times debated the 24 but I have the TS-E and do not think I need two 24 primes, well at least my ex-wife did not think I did :)

On a FF body, I usually go with the 35 or 50.

either 35 or 50. I find my 24LII to be too wide for walk around.

The 35L is what I use for walkabout purposes. 24mm is a bit too wide unless you're on a crop body, which you did not mention. On full frame, I typically find anything wider than 28mm too wide. YMMV.

I had the 35L on a 7D. It is a great lens, but I wanted something a little wider.

Sold it for the Sigma 30 which I loved, but my family got me the 24 MKII as a gift. WOW!

The 24 MKII is one of the best lenses I have ever shot. I much prefer it over the 35mm on a 7D.

Unlike everyone above, I much prefer my 24L II when walking around.

Here's why:

Having both the 24L mark I and the 35L, i much prefer my 35L for a general walk around. I usually walk around with a pair of primes in bag. It'll either be the 35L and a 85L or 135L or the 24L/50L set. I still need the 50L to complete my set.

In fact... I'm sitting in class right now with my 35L and 135L set in my TTUD35. I can't wait to get put of class to take photos.

24L, it's a better lens. 35L is in between my preferred focal lengths of 24 and 50.
