I would like some input on these, I am new to this so would like to learn from my mistakes.

I did a little pp on these, mostly added some contrasts and I lightened her skin and I smoothed the skin with lightroom.

My gear:
Canon RebelT1i, sigma 17-70mm OS, sigma 10-20mm, canon 70-300mm usm, canon 50mm 1.8, canon 270ex flash

both pictures are good. I think you have made two great shots here.

But the pp on the first picture are not working. It would be good if you posted the original pictures, would be easier to tell what you could have done different then.

The smoothing of the skin is not looking good. I wouldn't do much skin smoothing on a woman that are not looking like 20.

Depending on what style you are afther, I find the white balance a bit off. The white part in her eyes should have been whiter. I have never used lighroom, but I guess that there is lots of different whitebalance tools there. One of them are probably one with the histogram on, and a button where you can set the white balance with a small stick directly on the picture. Let that tool pick out the white in her eye and see if the balance get better.

Thank you for the tip, I thought the same... I actually already made the eyes more white in photoshop as the original was very beige, will try to make it more white! lol

I unfortunately dont have the originals anymore, as I had a pc that broke down and lost everything that was on the Hard drive. :(

Both are great photos. I would have to agree that the PP on the first photo is not ideal. Mainly because she's an elderly and her skin looks too smooth. Sometimes wrinkles are good too ... it defines character. But overall, good job.

I think the first one could be cropped better.

The second one is the most interesting to me. There is a lot you could do with it. Try making the front of the face darker so the light on the temple and eye is more dramatic.

you've done pretty well with your own gear!

I agree with PP comments on #1, but great shots.

These look like they were taken with a wide angle lens. I would suggest backing up and using a medium telephoto. Their features are a bit distorted.
