Old southern mill tower ruins shot using my new CPL filter. This was a tough one with the low light and not sure if any really work but thought I'd post for c&c

Interesting subject, but the first one doesn't work with the trees in the background - looks too processed (I'm not totally sure what you did there, but it didn't work, whatever it was :) )

The second one is much better imo - it still needs a bit of work around the seam of the sky and tower top - parts of the stone and foliage look darker than they should be. I absolutely hate the overcooked HDR pics, but perhaps this would be a good one for HDR. Love the angle on #2!

Thanks for the feedback. Both are actually HDR's :) I was going for an antique look on both of them.. something that you would see on an old post card. I have another version of the first with slightly more realistic foliage but it seems to ruin the effect.

I agree with mpp -- over cooked HDR is horrible. But these have a creepy quality that fit the subject.

I think #2 is really cool. My pet peeve with "HDR" is that they all look the same to me. I feel that if people used that process sparingly, and then CONTINUED working on the image rather that allowing some software to call it "done", there would be some really nice stuff as a result. In this case, Why not try simply using the curves tool and pull out more dark tones. I bet that would result in a more interesting result. Let's see what you do!

Good feedback guys. I definitely wasn't going for an overcooked look.

I re-did the two HDR's and added a 3rd photo. How is the composition on these? not so good/so-so? feedback always appreciated for next shoot :)
