I think sites like designoutpost are great for logo design, particularly if you don't have a clear concept of what you want and want to see lots of ideas, getting concepts from different people gives you more variety than what you will get dealing with just one designer.

I used designoutpost for my original logo design but once I had that I have used individual designers for things like business cards, website, brochures etc.

Total rebranding is needed for sure.
I'll probably post the logo offerings here to get some opinions .. and you're welcome to bid ;)

Haha, which site did you chose? I've actually submitted work to a couple sites, so I guess my rant was partially fueled by bitterness .

Many of these sites show all the submissions, so it can be frustrating as a designer, because people will take your design and modify it a little, and then win. This is usually good for the client in the end though.

Good luck with that. I'll be happy as long as this spec-work craze doesn't become big for photography, I don't see how it could in all practicality, but who knows.

I'm putting together the specs now and will most likely be using Design Outpost, although I'm open to other sites but I'm not aware of too many.

I used Elance a couple of times when I had my retail store, worked out really well.. you set a budget and the designers bid on the job, you can pick the bid you want, whether it be the lowest or best. When I used them it was a few years ago, and looking at the site now it looks like they're more into sourcing larger jobs for freelancers but it might be something to check out.. I got some great results from it.

edit: I just dug a little deeper and they are still lots of jobs posted for logo design etc..
