Are they any other long lost L's out there other then the 100-300 f/5.6 L? I really love mine, and I got it pretty cheap and I don't think I should spend too much right now while I'm still learning (and my learning curve in PP is pretty poor). I'd like to know if there are any other budget L's I could afford.

It's pretty sharp wide open.

100-300mm f/5.6 L; 300mm - ISO 200 - f/5.6 - 1/800

And real nice at f/8. (check the break)

Not too shabby in low light either, though the Xs isn't ther greatest at low light with ISO 800/1600

I like looking through the Canon Camera Museum (external link) for old L lenses.

I would recommend the 80-200 2.8L if you were interested in a telephoto zoom. You can find it from $500-$800 now depending on condition etc.

I especially like the old FD lens history. Wow, there were a lot of bazookas built for the film era. I just sold my 300 2.8L FD lens. I kept it around just to keep it around! At least it's going to someone that wants to use it!

Good to know, I havn't seen that one for sale much. The older 200 2.8 L comes around a lot though usually around $500, I think. I've considered that next, or a wide angle maybe 17-40 L.

Anyone else find it deliciously amusing Canon just came out with a new version of that 100-300 roughly, except its variable aperture and FAR more expensive than that one EVER was most likely?

^^ the 70-300? it has IS USM motor and superior build quality. I guess that's what your paying for.

I'll throw my 28-70L in the mix. My copy is super sharp and said to be sharper than the 24-70.

+1 on the 80-200 f/2.8
I've had mine for more than 20 years and, even though I don't use it much anymore, can't part with it. Sure the AF is slow and noisy by today's standards, but it is still very sharp.

I had a 28-70L about 20 years ago when I was using an EOS 3. Great lens and camera.
