Does anyone know the best lens protector I can leave on a G12 all the time. I need one that does not vignette from 28mm to 140mm. I do not care for the G11 72mm but have not seen any other that will protect the lens and housing (?) from 28mm to 140mm. All I want is to protect the housing & lens, and add a UV filter and polarizer. I do not add wide angle lenses or telephoto lenses. Does any company make a 53mm or 58mm or do I have to settle for the LensMate 72mm. I've looked at Canon's but it protects only the lens, not the housing. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

If you can afford to wait a while Canon has created a 58mm adapter that does not vignette nor hit the lens when zooming

Shouldn't be too long before they release it

That is the one that protects the lens but not the housing (optical zoom). I need an adapter that will protect both. If I go with the Lensmate set-up that is another $184.42!!! That is rather steep considering the aluminum tube for my G3 was < $30.00. Times have changed from the G3 days and not for the better.

In that case I'm not sure...but if you're willing to use the Lensmate set but not pay the excessive price you can always buy a 58mm adapter from ebay and then a set of step up rings to 72-77mm to recreate the Lensmate adapter at a fraction of the cost (ends up being around 20-30USD).

Problem then is you'll be paying more for the larger sized filter

Yesssss, it is a Catch 22. I've researched all the old posts but none seem to have a better solution. I am a little surprised no one has come up with a straight adapter like the one on the old G3.
Thank you for your suggestions.
