There are a few new versions of DPP out there making the rounds! The Canon S95 seems to ship with version 3.9.0.1 (no typo, it's 0.1 at the end) and the 60D seems to ship with an even newer version 3.9.1.0 (1.0 at the end).

The official US Canon site still only has 3.8.1 available for download.

I just installed 3.9.1.0 from a source I won't mention and so far found the following changes:

- EOS Utility and DPP have some minor UI refinements. Buttons etc. look more "3D". It's subtle, but it's there.

- "Unsharpen mask" sharpening option. DPP now lets you select between the normal single "Sharpness" slider, or switch to "Unsharpen mask" mode which gives you three sliders "Strength", "Finesse" and "Threshold".

- 5 check marks instead of 3 (Alt+1 - Alt-5)

- New rating system in addition to check marks. 0 to 5 stars and "Reject". Hot keys are 0-5 and "X".

- Ability to "tune" white balance settings (not sure if that one was always there :) )

- Ability to load in custom picture styles

- Thumbnails in the edit view can now be on the left or the bottom.

- The tool palette now has an image thumbnail in the bottom which allows you to navigate around the image if you're zoomed in.

That's about it...

Looks like a nice update. Hopefully it will be released officially soon.

After using it for a while; I declare DPP is a wonderful RAW processor for Canon. Previously I used LR 2.3 that is another excellent RAW processor. However, upon being repeatedly promoted by an engineer of local Canon dealer; I gave it a try. Boy what a wonder! So, simple and fast but produces good results as well. Got version 3.9.1.0 yesterday from the dealer at no cost. It has become more versatile. Now it contains an option that I missed in my previous version is the arbitrary rotation of canvas to fractional degrees as per requirement. Also love all the other enhancements mentioned at the beginning of this page.

Update to version 3.9.3 -- it has an Unsharp Mask feature that gives you sharpening options to play with if you shoot Raw.

Do you update from the Canon site itself?

Yes. At the Canon site, go to the page for a recent camera and to the "Drivers and Software" page. Select your OS and when you scroll down you will see the most recent versions of not just DPP but ZoomBrowser and EOS Utilities as well. You will have to download/install each independently. From there, make sure you go to the "Brochures and Manuals" section to download the pdf User Guides for each app.

Thanks. Collected version 3.10 that day but have not yet installed it. Could you tell me whether the latest version can convert RAW files to quality level 12 Jpeg output?

Thanks in advance.

No. 10 is the highest quality for every possible conversion.

DPP's jpg scale goes from 0 to 10. Photoshop is 0 - 12. Lightroom is 0 - 100. Those are just arbitrary numbers. DPP 10 is not the same as PS 10 nor is it the same as PS 12. 10 in DPP makes bigger files than is necessary, 8 is a good choice.
