Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Great Catalina Photo Adventure is set for:

September 10, 2005

We will be meeting in Avalon, and that will be our "center," if you will.

FROM SAN PEDRO:
It will take about an hour and 15 minutes.
~Leave on the 8:50 am boat, arrive in Avalon about 10:05.
~Return from Avalon on the 6:45 pm boat (allowing us Sunset from the pier and boat.) and arriving in San Pedro about 8:00 pm
(You can leave later, if you like...there's a 9:00 pm boat, too)
Round Trip Cost: $49.00 round trip; $44.00 senior
(There may be some additional port fees and/or taxes I haven't discovered...)

FROM DANA POINT:
It takes about 90 minutes to go from Dana Point to Avalon
Leave 7:45 am and arriving at Avalon at about 9:15 am or so
Return 7:00 pm from Avalon and arriving in Dana Point at 8:30 pm
Round Trip Cost: $51.00 round trip; $46.00 senior
(There may be some additional port fees and/or taxes I haven't discovered...)

Here is the website for the boat to get over.
http://www.catalinaexpress.com/public_html/sched_next.htm (external link)

We will meet at the pier in Avalon, where the boat drops us off. I am sure there will be coffee and stuff we can grab, either on the boat itself or at the pier in Avalon. Once the boats arrive and we all figure out who we are (maybe by the cameras around our neck...LOL!!), we can either do the Seal Rock Tour, the Glass Bottomed Boat, or both.

The times for them are found at this link*****: http://www.catalinainfo.com/outadventuretours.html (external link)

I suggest we do the Seal Rock Tour first, departing at 11 am. It's a one hour (approximate) tour, and so that will bring us back to the harbor at noonish.
Then we'll grab a lunch, and see what there is to see around the harbor....

Then, those of us who want to do the Nautilus/Glass Bottomed Boat at either 1:15 or 1:45. This is a 45 minute tour, and will bring us back at either 2:00 or 2:30.

The Inside Adventure Tour will be around 3 or 3:15. It's two hours, so it will bring us back at about 5:15 or so, and we can all grab dinner or shoot golden hour stuff then.
http://www.catalinainfo.com/outadventuretours.html (external link)

*****The schedules for the tours only extend to September 02...so I'm not positive about the times. They shouldn't be too far off, though, as it's just the week later, but there may be some changes as information is published.

RESERVATIONS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as per the tour people. They are REQUIRED for the boat trip over. I would like everyone to make the reservations by themselves.

I have not been able to confirm pricing for tours/combos, even though last week there were some on-line. I will update this after a call to them sometime tomorrow, and see if we can't get a "group discount" or something, as well.

COMMUNICATIONS!!!
I will need someone to volunteer to "coordinate" those who will be leaving from Dana Point. If there is someone willing to be the cell phone person for that group, I'd appreciate it. I will coordinate the San Pedro group.

RSVP!!!
Please let me know - either via this thread (preferred) or via private message if you will be coming along. "I am not sure yet, but I think so" is fine, but let me know that, too. That way, I can have a semi-accurate headcount to see if I can't get group rates and such, and so that reservations are made in a large enough number so that everyone can do what they want.

UM, OTHER THINGS:
Bring sunscreen. Bring your sense of humor. And bring plenty of fun, 'cause we will be having a ball!

I think that covers it...anyone with any questions, let me know, and I'll try to get them answered.

YAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!! We're going on an ADVENTURE!!!! (and ohmigod, do I need this!!!)

For people who do not want to make such a long day of it, there is the Catalina Flyer (external link). They leave from Balboa Island in the Neport Beach Harbor at 9:00 am (Avalon at 10:15) and they leave Catalina at 4:30 pm (Newport at 5:45). This will most likely be my choice as Newport is a 10 minute drive for me.

No matter what, it seems as though 10:30 would be an appropriate meeting time there in Avalon. Yes, No?

I'll be there. I'll most likely be taking the San Pedro boat. Should be fun. I've been wanting to go back to Catalina for a long time. Last time I was there was about 20 years ago or more...

Man, I'd love to go on this trip. But, my wife is 7 months pregnant and I have to be within driving range.

Yowza, Zach, you do need to be in driving range! There will be other times we'll get together, so no worries...

Johnny Thunder, you are more than welcome to coordinate the DP group. THanks for the help, I really appreciate it!

Thomas (and anyone else in the San Fernando Valley), I'll have two open seats (and maybe three) in the Explorer...plenty of room, and we can split gas costs and stuff. Let me know; there's enough room for us people as well as our gear.

Someone asked about reservations; I am asking that everyone please make their own reservations, in case they need a credit card or something...and then confirm here when the reservations have been made. Again, I might be able to get a deal based on the group size, so I'm waiting to see how many post here with intentions of going from each place. That way, I'll have some numbers to work with.

This is going to be fun.

Are we supposed to be making reservations for the tours too, or just the boat ride over there for now?
