I find that sharpening is a bit of a losing battle between fidelity and acutance. Any other CC welcome. Joe

I think more of the white noise needs to disappear and I am thinking my sharpening technique needs to go to the next level.

You may want to take a look at a plug-in called Photokit Sharpener. I've been using this religiously for the past few years. This has three sharpening levels available: Capture Sharpening, Creative Sharpening, and Output Sharpening. Capture is used to override the initial effects of the AA filter, Creative can be used for fine-tuning specific areas of the image, and Output enables the sharpening to be custom-tailored to the output type and output method (e.g., contone printing, inkjet printing, web-based images, etc.). Each sharpening type creates a separate layer which can be easily adjusted with the opacity slider. The best thing is, you don't need to use all three sharpening types on an image...you simply use what you need. The plug-in also includes a haze cutting application. Probably the best $95 you could spend on software enhancement. "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son". - Dean Wormer

I miss 4x5. The detail is the sharpness not exclusively the edge itself. I assume that since I haven't caught a lot of flack for this image that this level of sharpening is acceptable. Personally I wish there was more dynamic tone in the sharpened areas.
