Here are a few from my first pass thru tonight's photos from the race.

...and the pressure picks up with the pace as the end of the race nears.

The passing zone at the bottom of the esses gets busy:

Entering turn 6:

Also entering turn 6:

This pass made with the Audi diving into turn 7:

This one was a happy accident- not sharp, but I like the swirl effect on the rotors:

All pictures were shot from spectator areas hand held with a 5d2 with a 300/2.8L, 24-105/4L or 70-200/2.8L.

Marc. You are a good person. Thanks for meeting up and shuttling me around! Dinner was good too!

Love that Peugeot Shot!

Love #3/4 Looks like the 430 is pulling up the RR on entry. Stiff chassis anyone?

Thanks everybody.

I know the first two are far from inspiring photography, was just trying to capture RA signature hill in the evening.

dinanm3atl: It was fun shooting with you, we will have to do it again sometime soon.

Here is another for all the fans of the blue flame:

Thanks again.

Fantastic panning and lovely captures! What kind of shutter speeds did you use to pan that late into the evening?

The above was captured with 5d2, Manual mode: 1/50 sec @ f/2.8, iso 1600, 85mm - with a 70-200 f/2.8L IS Mark I. IS was not used in any of the above shots- I could not afford the time-lag of IS spin-up.

I was forced all the way down to 1/30th depending on the end of the short chute I was trying to get the picture in. The hard part was the small interval you had to pickup the car, nail the pan and take the shot before 1) smacking a bystander with the lens next to me, 2) getting a working photog in the frame, or 3) getting to far into the hot spot created by the floodlight and blowing the exposure.

I wanted more passing shots of the cars diving into turn 7 hot, but most of the teams were playing it safe in the last 90 minutes of the race content to finish in their relative positions. The risk of breaking something in the car 8+ hours into the race outweighed the reward for most of the cars.

Kinda felt a little cheated there, but as a long time race fan I understand the "physics" of the sport.

#3 & #4 are excellent shots!

#2 looks to be a touch out of focus and i'm afraid the last shot of the GT doesn't do anything for me
