Flickr's interface is terrible and the new version is worse IMO. I have a photobucket account and it's much easier to use but is cluttered with tons of advertisements etc...

What is a good replacement?

I use photobucket so I can link to the images. If you need a gallery, take a look at free JAlbum.net - It will build excellent galleries & now has free hosting, too. A few skins incorporate shopping cart features & some of those aren't free.

I've been fairly happy with PBase since 2004.

I'd recommend smugmug, zenfolio, and pbase but you have to pay for all these sites except zenfolio IIRC.

If you want a good website to store and show your images, be prepared to pay for it as with free sites, you get what you paid for.

You could try to make your own website, I am struggling with mine, but I feel it is getting there

Zenfolio isn't free....but worth every cent.

Compared to most photography-related expenses, the yearly subscription cost is loose change.

I use Pbase and while it doesn't bring alot of new features to the table as of recently if you know CSS you can make yours look pretty much any way you want. I don't know how to manage this so mine is just the stock look. It has always served me well.

Flickr is about as vanilla as one can get but people like it because you don't have to pay for it. Even their so called pro version is pretty lacking, imo. They have done an outstanding job of being the most popular sharing site and for that they should be commended. Given what we pay for our gear I don't think that anyone should complain about sharing sites that cost less than 100.00 per year (depending on how much you put on some of them). The providers of these sites are entitled to a return on what is surely some significant costs.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I was thinking of making one of those I have my own site and use photobucket and a mass uploader but I'm scared people would steal my pictures off of it I don't trust that right click protector crap. I wish there was a way a website can let you access photo albums by a password.

I agree with Sheldon here.. I looked at Flickr after signing up with PBase,, I just don't like it, free or not.. It's bland and slow loading..

PBase costs me $25 per year which in realility is cheap,, less than a roll of film with processing.. There is a good choice of designs and image EXIF is available for each image.. You can also disable right click of the mouse for your images..

You can lock galleries with a password in Zen...as I have done with some of my personal shots (external link). You can also set securities on each individual photo to allow visitors to download originals if you wish.

And...the premium service allows customised watermarking by gallery (so you don't have to re-edit all your existing stuff to add watermarks) if you want to go down that road.

Like I said;

I'm pretty sure SmugMug offers similar features.

I like your page! Zenfolio looks to be exactly what I need. Plus, $100 is change compared to what I spend on photography each year. Thanks for tge recommendations.

I use Fotki and am very happy with it. (Link in sig) An unlimited account is VERY reasonable if you pay for multiple years up front.

I joined zenfolio. I'm in the process of setting up my page. I'll post it when done. So far it has been easy. Now I have to sort through hard drives to figure out which pics to post!
