I was wondering if others somehow I.D. their equipment either with a label maker or etching or do you think it is a waste of time ? I was contemplating doing so but then countered with the thought that if I was careless enough to leave it somewhere I probably wouldnt see it again anyway.

Well you could always write down the serial number from the camera body or from your lenses (all L´s have serial numbers, dunno if the "normal" do).

All Canon lenses and bodies have serial numbers that can be registered on the Canon web site. In the UK, if your equipment goes walkies, the police can retrieve your serial number from Canon. Should be the same in other places.

Take a few photos of the ID marks etc with your id in the shot. If you can't do much pre-event, may as well plan for after the event, establishing ownership should it be recovered.

Can you provide the link to where I can register my lenses? All I'm able to find on the website is camera body registration.... :(

I haven't marked my equipment but I have scanned pdf's of all the receipts (showing serial numbers) in my laptop and my insurance company also has copies of all my receipts right down to my cf cards.

I think that the only way images of your equipment would suffice is if it is in an original RAW file. That is akin to a negative.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

You can input name info to the cam I think. I also use a white sheet of paper to WB & you can write name & phone # info to the paper & save it as a 1st shot. Some people have said that they've had lost CF cards returned with that. ;-)a
