Rebuild ZoomBrowser Database

Do you know how to recover/rebuild a corrupted database? While Peeka Saarinen's suggestion was helpful in restoring my image folders, I was unable to restore my images. I have the .zbd, .dat, and .idx files, but can't seem to recover/rebuild the database to include the images. I can't seem to locate any of the .jpg files. Should I give up and chalk it up to my ignorance/inexperience? Any suggestions from the forum? THANKS!

You do have the original photos on some folders on your hard disk, right? The photos are not in the zoombrowser files, they are untouched by zoombrowser (unless you deleted them using zoombrowser's interface).

Do a operating system search for *.jpg (in Windows 98/ME/2000 right click my computer and select search or find)

When the search is done, do you see the original images?

I guess you are out of luck.
The ZB database only records picture information and thumbnail, not the image by itself.
So if you have deleted your original jgp/raw's, you have lost them...
Maybe an 'Undelete' at Windows level?

Amedee,

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I think that the Zoombrowser program goes in and deletes the actual jpgs when you use it to delete...

In any case, how do you do an "undelete" at the windows level? I checked the recycle bin, and none of my photos were there...

Thanks!

There are some 'undelete utilities' available for Win (E.g. Norton). But if you do not run one of these immediately after the delete, chances are small that you can recover something :-( ...

I hit Function Key "5" and it will rescan all your directories and add the photos again. PRoblem is - if it has some listed that you delete, it will stop and ask if you want to remove it. (this can be a pain if you've deleted a lot of images.)

Recently - I've had to many database problems with the program and purchased (35.00) BreezeBrowser.
Used it all night tonight and it IS EXCELLENT. much better than BreezeBrowser and Bibble.

My zoom browser data base crashed, and now the pictures will not appear as thumbnails. I have the original jpegs in their folders, but cannot get ZoomBrowser to recognize them. I get an error message something like "ZoomBrowser does not recognize this image and it cannot be added."

What is the work-around?
How can I be better prepared for these crashes?

Kurt,

How to be better prepared for ZoomBrowser crashes?

Don't use ZB. I recommend you have a look at BreezeBrowser (www.breezesys.com (external link)). It is a much better piece of software than ZB.

Regards,

Roger

Also check out iMatch (www.photools.com (external link)) and FotoAlbum (www.fototime.com (external link)), both of which are far more stable than ZoomBrowser. FotoAlbum is free but a little limited. iMatch is $49, far more ambitous than ZoomBrowser, but doesn't yet support Canon's RAW files.
