sheesh, why did he compare its specs to a 20D.. now everyother idiot on here is gonna be posting, "canon's 20D upgrade.. the 5D"

The dynamic range of the new sensor doesn't look that impressive... just another new cam I say.. evolutionary, not revolutionary.

Your right the camera is evolutionary, I just can't imagin spending $3299 for it at this time. Hoping that the 30D will be similar in specs and priced at $1500.

Wow, that is great!. I've never been able to capture that kind of detail with my DReb, even on a very windy day.

Pardon my lack of understanding. But to get a FF camera from $8,000 to $3,200 (without the bells & whistles a pro needs) sounds like a revolutionary to me. I must be missing something :o

Hells no, do you see anything revolutionary in the image quality itself, other than the LOWER res of the 5D? Canon priced the 1Ds so high because they could. It being the only FF out on the market. So are you really one of those people who believe that the price canon imposes on their product is a good telling of where we were and are now from a technology point of view? Semiconductor technology dictates that chips will be cheaper to produce given time to allow it to evolve.

If you're arguing this camera's revolutionary, I better see some better talking-points than simply the price canon wants for it.

As nice as the 5D appears, I really don't see it being a replacement for the 20D.
Apart from the much higher price, it's a full frame, doesn't accept EF-S lens, no pop-up flash, and it comes without a lens plus several more features.
It would be a nice upgrade from my 10D but far to expensive.

Brian

It's not a replacement. There'll probably be a 30D that replaces the 20D.

The 5D is your less expensive alternative to the 1Ds MK1/MKII. No professional would really use the popup flash. If you look at any of the 1 series cameras, they don't have it. This camera is the same. Look at the dial. The prosummer features aren't on there like portrait mode or sports mode for instance.

Efs lens were made for the digital crop factor. Full frame doesn't have that, so there's no need for a 10-20 when say a 16-35mm or 17-40mm will be very wide. 10-20 acts as a 16 on a 20D, 300D, 350D.

And why would you want it to come with a lens. Those kit lens are lousy. If you already have a collection of lens, you especially don't need a kit lens. Even with the 20D, if I were to upgrade, i'd buy it without the lens.

Not sure what other features you speak of that it lacks though. This camera is not for the everyday user and its not priced accordingly for the everyday user.

For the everyday DSLR user the target cameras are the 300/350D and 10D/20D for that consummer level.

The 20D I guess is what they used or the performance of the new 5D. I for one am very happy to see an affordable full frame camera!! I just would not buy the 1Ds MK II way too much for me now the 5D is in my price range. I wish the was a bit faster than 3FPS but it is not a speed demon it is a resolution monster for quality large detail photos that way surpass 35MM film. I think the 20D is way better than film is now. But why such a slow sync of 1/200? and -not at least 1/250 in such a high end pro type camera? Any way I will be ordering one as soon as B&H starts taking orders. I did not send in one of my Mark II's in time so now I will need to sell it off when I get my new 5D. I just cant wait my 17-35 L will be wide once more!!! :D

Angelo

Here's a few comments from the Luminous Landscape on it, with some tidbits on a 24-105mm f/4 L IS Lens, 1D MKIIn, and Speedlite 430.

I looked over the images on DPReview. The reason that I will be buying this camera is this: 3200 asa that needs NO apology!

My previously announced procurement of the 1DsMkII is now officially on hold.

I know that is what you really meant (hence the winking smiley). I figured that on a board like this, it would be obvious that I was joking. It's just that some people (not you necessarily) seem so intent on finding something wrong with the 5D that I re-interpretted your statement in a positive (and apparently not so humorous) way.

The High ISO Performance on this is camera is phenominal, and its great to see the differance between FF and 1.6 crop (to actually SEE what a 1.6x is cutting out)

What I dont understand is why there are so many people dumping on the camera. "Its too Slow" "Its too expensive" "What? No weather sealing" I really dont think there is a lot of understand as to what this camera is. I couldnt be more excited about it, because it is EXACTLY what I need, a Bad Boy Studio Camera that doesnt cost more then a Car!

Want speed, Get a 20D or ID 2, thats what they are there for!

I definatly see it as a revolutionary Camera, Outstanding High ISO performance, FF, and an affordable price tag (atleast compared to its big brother)
