The High ISO Performance on this is camera is phenominal, and its great to see the differance between FF and 1.6 crop (to actually SEE what a 1.6x is cutting out)

What I dont understand is why there are so many people dumping on the camera. "Its too Slow" "Its too expensive" "What? No weather sealing" I really dont think there is a lot of understand as to what this camera is. I couldnt be more excited about it, because it is EXACTLY what I need, a Bad Boy Studio Camera that doesnt cost more then a Car!

Want speed, Get a 20D or ID 2, thats what they are there for!

I definatly see it as a revolutionary Camera, Outstanding High ISO performance, FF, and an affordable price tag (atleast compared to its big brother)

Abso too diddle ootly!

Is any one taking orders here in the US yet for the camera? ;) ? I need to place mine! :D ! I also see no one has the grip listed? Seems like it will be the same as the 20D grip hard to get at the launch of the camera. Now what will be the price of the grip???

Angelo

I agree that most of the sample pics look blown out at the highlights, whether that's indicative of the dynamic range or hurried post processing I don't know

It is because Mr. Askey overexposed most shots, a couple of them grossly so! He was in a hurry no doubt.

Which, by the way, also helped to make the noise performance look a bit better than it probably will be with correct exposures.

I heard (somewhere) that the grip will be $250 USD. I haven't seen it advertised anywhere either.

Have Fun,

i got a chance to have a play with a 5d yesterday - i'm in southern california at the moment and a Canon rep at a shop was showing that together with the 35 1.4L. no 24-105, though...

the really cool thing, though, are the enhancements to the included software- which will be available to everyone who qualifies. should be good for people who don't use PS or simply to work better with their workflow.

Are you refering to enhancements to DPP? If so, can you give an idea of what some might be.

Here is a good article from Bob Atkins that covers sensor size differences from an interesting viewpoint, while comparing the 5D to several other form factors from a sensor/resolution perspective.

Good reading for those sorting out the differences and benefits of 20D, 5D and possibly 1D series cameras.

Tom - i am... but to be honest, i didn't get a chance to play with it so it's a bit hard to articulate exactly what's new. he was showing the employees a bunch of things that i've never seen before. also, they all seemed to be in agreement that the dependancy on PS is going to be greatly reduced with this version and in the future with more enhancements - especially with raw.

The senior Canon official in Europe is now saying that in a few years all Canon DSLRs except the cheapest will have 24x36mm sensors.

Well, folks, here it is - The first EOS 5D offered on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)

It ends on August 31, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for immediate shipment!

This buyer also recommends Western Union for payment, so beware!

Have Fun,

Rick

Ohh yeah! I'm gonna jump right on that . . . . I love to buy stuff from China, in British pounds, using western union. The only better deal would be if he'd let me cash a cashiers check for him and send him the $10,000 balance because he can't cash the check in his country due to his status as an exiled royal family member.

Have Fun,

HeHe - that didn't last long - it is now an invalid item number, 'removed by eBay, or no longer available'. There is also a note warning not to pay with Western Union. I'm guessing this was a scam from the start. It actually had 6 bids on it at one point.

There are bound to be more scams like this prior to the real ship date, so don't get fooled.

Have Fun,

Rick
