re the fly shots, f16 and f19 are good for depth of field but eye detail is compromised, if you want to show the facets of the compound eye clearly you need to open up to about f8

thanks - I will try again with f8 ... I sort of 'wrote off' anything below f12 ... but that makes good sense to me - will have to wait for rain to go ...
