Last year, I attended the "normal" Airshow at Miramar and took the usual formation flight / Blue Angels pictures (see here: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=761893). This year, I decided to take my son to the "Twilight show" which is less "air", but more "show". It was quite enjoyable, but very very hard to take pictures of. Nevertheless, here we go...

All shot with my new (to me) Canon 300mm f/2.8 with or without the 1.4x TC.

1. Sean Tucker in the Oracle bi-plane:

2. "Shockwave" - FedEx's next generation delivery vehicle:

3. Miramar is home to many Harrier's:

4. The Army's Golden Knights parachute team:

5. More Golden Knights; shooting is starting to get harder (ISO 3200, f/2.8, 1/320th):

6. Shockwave back for another run at night:

7. Robosaurus put on a great show. Shooting was now quite the challenge at 1/50th (remember, 300mm...), f/2.8, ISO 6400:

8. And finally, the "big bang" as Miramar puts on the "Wall of flames" at the end of the show. I didn't have a wide angle with me to cover the wall itself, but Robo was still out in front of the wall:

Very nice shots... I was too hot to remain for the evening show... But, apparently leaving early was a mistake.

For sure traffic was horrible. New plan for next year....... Stay half way through the night show, then leave.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. The show was truly worth it and was highly entertaining.

The 7D and 300mm f/2.8 IS worked amazingly well for this show. I'm pretty impressed that I even got these shots, let alone the fact that they came out so well. Needless to say - I'm happy :).

Of course lugging the 7+ pounds of gear from the parking lot to the show was less fun :D

The last shot is really good, looks like it could be from a film.

Jurassic Park meets Terminator :)
I really like that shot as well.

Still can't quite believe the 7D handled itself so well at night!
